Proof of time aggravation

This past weekend I did a half marathon to use for proof of time for Goofy marathon weekend 2015. I finished in 3:15:58 I believe with a 14:58 pace. I was super pumped because my main goal was to avoid the last corral and I figured they would give me the 15 mpm average and put me down for a 6:32 marathon finish. I emailed my info and there was an automatic reply to update it online. I did that and it said my estimated finish time had been changed to 6:53. That kind of pisses me off. Am I still going to be in the last corral? I haven't done a Disney race in a couple of years so I don't know much about the new changes to corrals and proof of time. I am so aggravated. I hope I didn't just waste that money to pay for the race weekend I just completed. I am not saying it wasn't fun at all but getting a better corral was the main reason I did it.

I forget what the name of the calculator is, but there is one out there that will take your race time and "convert" it into an estimated time for another race distance. Disney uses this method. They do not assume that you can keep up the same pace for twice the distance, so your estimated time is always a little slower.

For a Marathon proof of time always try to go with a local 10miler as opposed to a half if you can find some in your area.

Rdisney tends to go with what you manually put down as your projected finish. They only bring out the calculators when you start emailing them.

Well poo! Oh well. It is too late now. There weren't any 10 milers in my area. That is why I went with the half. I guess I will be in the back!!!!!!! I thought that if you didn't submit a proof of time at all that they put you in the last corral? When I registered I put that my estimated time for the full was 6:30. That is what I am still hoping for but now I just feel like I am being penalized for submitting a proof of time. Bleh. I don't care I am still gonna get my Goofy medal. They can't stop me!!!!!!:drive:

I think you will have to wait and see, many will not submit proof of times and you could be put at least one corral in front of them.

Besides that the 6:53 estimate seems legit and even on the optimistic side, especially given doing a half the day before.

That's true. All I want is one corral ahead of the sweeps! One corral!!!! Either way I am killing it marathon weekend!

As mentioned, runDisney doesn't presume people will run a full marathon at the same pace as a half marathon. They aren't alone in this and it's because people generally will not run 26.2 miles as fast as they can run 13.1 miles, or 13.1 miles as fast as they can run 6.2, and so on.

That having been said, with the increase in the number of corrals you may still have bumped yourself at least from the very last corral. Those without times or whose times couldn't be validated will likely make up the very last corral while those who submitted a time -- even if it is just a minute or two under the official pace -- could be in a corral ahead of them. It may not be a big cushion, but it's better than nothing.

ETA: Since all that got said/posted while I was writing, I'll at least throw in that you can make an effort to start at the front of whatever corral you get in as well for a little extra cushion. Sweeper time doesn't start until the last person crosses the starting line.

Thanks! I know most of that but it still makes you feel better when other people say it.......some cushion is better than no cushion.:yay:

I am so glad I clicked on this thread I had been working under the mistaken impression that the proof of time had to be for the same length race! I had been trying to seek out a half marathon to do before the deadline and was bummed I couldn't find one, but thanks to this I just realised I could use my time from a 14km I did in August.

Knew I loved the DISboards community for a reason :goodvibes

Instead of a new thread...
What does "certified race" mean? The quoted words were on the rundisney site. Would that be any timed race which posts results online?

I remember some debate about this in the thread for this year's Princess. Some take it to mean that it is USTAF certifed but I think that when I had emailed rD about it before PHM, they basically just said that anything that is officially timed with results online.

Thanks. In the past I never looked to see if it was all official, but thought maybe they were getting a little stricter.

I am pretty sure that for the marathon you have to submit at least a half marathon time as proof of time, they will not take a shorter distance. For the half you can submit 10Ks, etc.

Actually, you can submit a time for the marathon from a race of 10 miles or longer.
