My understanding is that "Poly" is often used as a derogatory racial slur of Polynesian Islanders, similar to "kraut" for Germans, and many others I'm less comfortable using here (since I am of German descent, I hope I'm safe).

When I booked my PS the CM pronounced it "le say-yay". Your guess is as good as mine as to whether that's correct or not. My limited knowledge of French makes me think the "ier" at the end must be "ay" or "yay". "The hotel", written in French would l'hotel I think, and it would be pronounced "lo-tel". So, I could see "le sell-yay" as being correct.

luh-sell-YAY is the proper way to say it

Colloquially, luh-suhl-yay would probably be more on par with what you'd hear.

But that's French French. I don't know if Canadian French has any different pronunciation rules with the vowels and diphthongs involved in Le Cellier.

Quite true! I know the difference:

They're going over there to get their drinks. He's too drunk to carry two of them.

But sometimes my fingers aren't so picky, and figure that any "there" or "two" will do (or due!).

Maybe not owned or operated by anyone in Hawaii, but there are folks working there from areas within Polynesia. Just because you don't feel it's an insult doesn't mean those who may be native to that area and overhearing something aren't offended. Evidently it is cultural. Why this huge need of people to shorten and abbreviate everything? Are we in such a hurry that we can't take the time to either speak or type something out the long way...especially if there is someone who 'may' be offended by the abbreviation? Yes, I agree...it's not a huge thing to me, and in the big picture of life it's probably very small, but if saying something the 'long way' makes someone else more comfortable, what's the harm?

Because how I pronounce anything should be of little or no consequence to anyone else. I am tired of having to worry about everybody elses "problems" and having to adjust for them. If I meant no harm in what I did or said, it is downright mind scrambling to imagine that somebody could or would possibly be offended because I called the Polynesian, Poly. It is just another attempt at control through the use of, so called, political correctness. I hate PC! I think that it is one of the most blatent forms of bigotry that exists in the world today. We must all see things in the same way or it is wrong, is the message it sends. It is like saying the handicapped people are physically challenged. What is shameful about being handicapped the is made correct by calling it something else? Anything? Of course not, it just makes the person that decided that PC is what should be used that is uncomfortable with the word Handicapped. Calling it something else does not make the person with the handicap any more or less in need of what ever help is needed for them to survive and exist with everyone else. The fact is that handicapped and physically challenged mean exactly the same thing, so why is using one phrase over another any better? I maintain that it isn't! It just makes some "detached" individual feel better.

At first, I had no clue what he was talking about, so he emphasised "you know, the one right next to the castle"! Ahh, ok, the light went on! I had a quiet chuckle, and wished them a happy time.

This has been posted before, but how do you pronounce DIS? "diss" or "diz" There are two main thoughts.
#1. The original name for this site was Disney Information Station, or D.I.S. - hence the "diss" pronounciation.
#2. It's pronounced "diz", short for Disney.
I say diss, cuz I've been on these boards for years, and because it just feels lime green
