Promised upgrade that hasn't happened

On our first Disney Crusie I booked a Category 4 on the web-site over a year and a half in advance and the week of our crusie (we already had our documents with our originally booked stateroom on them) we got a call from DCL that we had been upgraded to a Category 3 Suite. It was awesome and unbelievable but I was told by every DCL worker on the ship that we had been very, very LUCKY. We never asked for it or even hoped for it -- it just happened. Last cruise we had an awesome time in our mid-ship Category 4 which is what I always book. Upgrades happen the week of but they are very rare and very random.

That would be the only way I would ever believe an upgrade was going to be forthcomming. I will say this, we are going on our 5th DCL cruise in less than four years all were seven day events, all were cat 5-6, we have also visted wdw 10 times in the past ten years, I have spent well over $70,000 on Disney vacations and another $20,000 on DVC points. we have NEVER been upgraded whether it be on the cruise or the parks, it just does not happen that often. If someone tried to promice me an upgrade I would make them put it in writing.

From speaking with Three supervisors at DCL, I learned that the on-board Reservations Sales managers are not permitted to offer you anything other than the room.

We were the victim of a person whom put the hook in us. The sales manager in question no-longer works for DCL or the Disney Company. I should have requested here promises in writing, that was my mistake.

However. DCL did give us the $400.00 on-board credit that we were promised and she neglected to put on our reservation card or on the computer record of our reservation.

Because I was able to show DCL that this was a valid offer from DCL and that she was at fault for not putting it in our reservations. "Funny that promotional flyer stuffed under you cabin door can come in handy". Why I kept it for a year and 1/2 is beyond me.

I learned my lesson and will never be duped my a "Disney Employee" again. I was too trusting and she had a gullable client.

I should have paid for the category six room from the door. Now there are no rooms available on the entire ship thanks to our friends "Charlie" "Francis" and "Ivan"

DCL will offer me an upgrade at cost if one becomes available.

Thanks for all your input

It's not uncommon to receive free upgrade offers from other cruise lines or hotels, so I can see how someone could be duped by an unethical employee. Like everyone else here, I've never seen the free upgrade type offers from Disney, though. The OP strikes me as being honest; not looking for a "free lunch".

It's unfortunate the OP didn't receive what he was promised but agree that without proof, it's not likely to be resolved in his favor.

FWIW - I've sailed twice and been upgraded twice. Always off peak season.

I am not, nor was I ever looking for a free-lunch.
I was only asking them to fulfil the promises of an unscrupulous employee, whom has since moved on.

This entire situation was way to frustrating, I need to move my focus on preparing for my cruise in 12 days.

Thanks again for all your input.

not surprised the CM doesn't work for DCL any more .. DCL will never say it (and legally can't) but I'd be willing the OP wasn't the first to be duped by this CM, and that might very well be why the CM no longer works there.

I'd be frustrated and disappointed too. But at least you have the satisfaction of knowing the employee is no longer an employee of Disney. :D

So focus on the positive, right? You'll be on the ship in less than 2 weeks with a *$400* stateroom credit to boot. Woo hoo!

Have fun,
Sam

I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR THE WORDS OF WISDOM AND ENCOURAGEMENT.

12 DAYS TILL CRUISE AND COUNTING

Tom,
I sincerely hope your cruise is MAGICAL, and holds many surprises for you!! Have a wonderful time!!

Hope you have a great cruise, Tom. Glad you at least got the appropriate stateroom credit that you definitely were entitled to (I remember that offer from right before we cruised last year, so that really stinks that they didn't have that in the system and couldn't verify on their own that you should have gotten it).

Again I want to thank all of you for all your words of wisdom and encourage, emt, you were awesome. The power of the internet and the thoughts of many people have help me navigate through this difficult time thanks again.

Happy Cruising,

Tom of Norris
