Prom Gown???

My aunt bought a very beautiful white strapless Oleg Cassini (sp?) gown at our local Savers 2nd hand store last Monday. Because of the color of the price tag on that day, she only paid $1!! It is a beautiful gown!

If I'm remembering this designer's name correctly, he used to dress Grace Kelley back in the day.

The dress was still white with no signs of yellowing fabric but it did need to be taken to the cleaners. The hem was a tad dirty in spots & there were marks under the arms. There was beading at the neckline & hem. The dress would have been good for Prom or a wedding. Personally, I believe white gowns should be kept for weddings though in lieu of a prom dance.

Wow! I didn't realize how expensive prom has become. Both of my DDs wanted me to make their prom dresses both years they went. I was happy to do it, and no one was the wiser. It wasn't exactly cheap...the trim for one of the dresses cost more than the fabric for the dress. But, still, nothing like what I'm seeing here.

Then when one of them got married, I made all the bridesmaid dress too since they wanted an arm and a leg and those girls, fresh out of college just didn't have that kind of money. I was able to combine two different patterns to get the look of the dress they liked from the boutique. I'm so thankful my mother taught me to sew when I was 7!
