Prom Flower Question

I had not even thought about flowers! And no clue if they are matching everything. Her dress is a peachy pink. Bless his heart if he is able to match it just right!!

The clerks at the florist are liable to have a suggestion for him that avoids a tricky match. I know a lot of the time they go a different direction specifically to avoid a mismatch that looks awkward.

White is what most go for, then pink, then red, with a smattering of other colors , depending on availability ( spoken as someone who worked in the biz)

I guess everyone we know is "picky" then because all of the couples matched the vest/tie to the girls dress and coordinated flowers....

Same here - all of the couples matched and the flowers matched as best they could. My daughter's dress was navy blue so he bought white flowers and they had blue ribbons. They looked beautiful as did all of the other couples that matched. Very classy and put together. I'm glad some traditions still live on.

I like the matching vests with the dress and the flowers but I have also seen some very classy couples that don't match. Guys with all black tuxes with tails and the girl in the right kind of dress, so that it matches in a fashion sense but not in color, I guess is the way to put it. Or if the guy goes with all white or all black. and her dress looks well with that color it can look really good. Younger ds wore an all black tux with no tie but a stand up collar to his senior prom, his date wore a beautiful red gown with lots of "bling". His flower was a red rose (so that did match her). I will have to go back and look at the pictures for her corsage, because I really don't remember.

They don't really have to match

to me those who match the dress to the boys tie and match the flowers are getting too picky .....
The dress isn't matched to the tie, the tie is matched to the dress. Flowers always match here, why would you want a flower color that doesn't match?

Having done several proms and homecomings in a big shop in a big city, every year for 10 years, I have seen more corsages than most DISers.......some couples go very matchy, but the vast number of peopl ordering ( the boys and Moms mostly)- get white , because either they aren't sure of the color of the girls dress, or too shy to ask.
When in doubt, White is the way to go
We ordered 10x more white spray roses than pink or red
Proms we added orchids in the mix

I finally had dd just text the boy. I didn't want to show up with a bout & he not have any flowers - so that's why I never got around to it. Well of course I should have known better his mom is totally into the tradition & the formal way of doing things - which isn't bad - unless you don't have the flowers - ha!

BUT I was able to order one & I'll get it tmrw @ 4- plenty of time before pics. I just did white 'cause I don't know what his mom did & dd's green would be terrible to try to match anyway.

I'm sure it's regional, but here, the guy almost always knows the color of his date's dress, is either given a swatch, or at least has a picture on his phone. When I was picking up ds17's rented suit a few weeks ago, lots of boys were matching ties to pictures on their phones. When I ordered dd's girlfriend's corsage on the phone, I told the woman deep purple, and she had a few options to choose from. I explained that I would just leave it up to her, and hope it matched (and it did - lovely crystal bracelet and purple orchid the exact color of her dress).

Last year, ds's date came with him tie shopping, and they weren't even dating!

Same here. You know what color your date's dress is in order to match your vest/tie and flowers. There is no guessing involved.

I don't know, colors can be hard to match. Even with pictures on phones. DD sent her date a picture but the color on the pictures look more pink than the dress actually is. We don't have a swatch. We bought the dress and its now being altered. I guess if he hasn't ordered his tux yet, we can get one from the alterations.

Neither of my sons were ever given a "swatch" just told a color. Red is easy, pink is hard and blue is a nightmare to try to match. "dark blue" can cover a multitude of colors. "deep pink" depends on whether its more peach or more red.

You are right- cell phone pics are a hard match

Believe it or not there can be a bright Christmas red rose and a very dark burgandy red rose ( most don't like the burgandy)

There are lots of shades of pink some going towards peach-usually pale pink or hot pink are normally what is in stock...when a florist orders a mixed bunch we will get various shades.
Blue is usually covered with the filler flowers or ribbon- most girls want roses or Orchids....there are dyed orchids that can be blue. Many shades of purple orchids

Yep, guy buys the girl's corsage, she buys his boutonniere in these parts too.

OP, hopefully your daughter is wearing the same dress to both proms.

Younger DD went to two separate proms, but she HAD to get two separate dresses. Nobody other than her and her date were at both proms. Nobody would ever know she wore the same dress twice. But I was told that I "just don't understand." :rolleyes1

Younger DD was right, you know.
