Project Linus: JoAnn fabrics sale

Will the 48x60 size work for this project? Hope that is not a silly question but I just started looking into doing this type of project this morning. This would be a good thing for our family to do.

Thanks for your help, Tracy

You need to check with the chapter you're signing up with to see exactly what they require. Each chapter (and national) has very different requirements - including what kind of blankets they want, what size, how many per person, and how they can be delivered.

For the chapter that I used- yes the 48 x 60 was an ok size.

Not sure which chapter you are using, but if it's the Tarrant County (Dallas) One, you can use one of those 48" kits to make two blankets - the kits are for two-layer blankets and this chapter specifically requests single-layer.

It's easy to follow the directions you got in their e-mail to make one one-layer out of each of the two pieces in your kit - you'll end up with one print blanket and one solid from the one kit. :teacher:

:) Thanks for everyone's help. I will look into the individual chapter to see what they require. :)

Thanks, Tracy

Thank you for the tip! Also, if you enter promo code DGSE46 you'll get an extra 10% off the sale price. This worked out better for me than free shipping.

Yes - check the requirements for your chapter. I found this on the description for the one closest to us:

Blanketeers are needed to make infant sized blankets for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in lour local hospitals. Blankets should be hand made, made with new kid friendly fabric, and should measure approximately 36"x "36 to 40"x "48.

We are NOT accepting no-sew fleece at this time.

The requirements for my chapter say the fleece blankets have to be single thinckness, cut off selveges, any edging we want and 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 yards. Do you think they want them to be perfectly square or is fleece a standard width when you buy it?

With our requirements, the size was more of a rectangle than square - 40x60. I got 3 different types of fleece and only 2 of them were 60 wide after trimming off the salvage lengths. The third one was 57" wide, so I had to cut it to the 60 inch length. This gave me less total blankets then I thought I would get. It took 2 yards instead of a 1-1/2 length for the skinnier width.

Ours also required patterned material. No solids allowed.

I wish mine would have given a length x width instead of saying 1 1/4 yards or 1 1/2 yards. When I was at the fabric store they told me fleece (on the bolt) can be anywhere from 52 inches to 60 inches. I went ahead and made mine 54" x 54" ( 1 1/2 x 1 1/2) Do you think that will be okay?

Our requirements were pretty strict - 40" by 50-60". So they can be very specific. Just wanted to note that I ordered from Hancockfabrics.com yesterday. They have their fleece on sale, most of it at $4.99/yd, and free shipping for your first online order: HKFEMAILSIGNUP

:thumbsup2

Ordered yesterday and it will be delivered tomorrow. Just in case anyone doesn't live near a fabric store :goodvibes

I was so bummed when I went into my Joann's last night for one of the kits... they were all sold out!!

They did have the licensed fleece ones, but the girl said they were not on sale. I bought some regular fleece (just needed to make 2 more blankets) for $17.
