Programming a Universal remote to work with a converter box

I can't seem to get the thing to work.

The Universal remote is a Magnavox and has buttons for TV, VCR and DVD.

I have followed the instructions for entering the code, etc....but it isn't working. I have the code for the Apex converter box.

Does it matter whether I push the button for TV, VCR or DVD? I think I have tried them all but I must be doing something wrong.

1. You push the TV button first and then follow the instructions for entering the (3 digit?) code for the Apex box.
2. You push the DVD button first and then ...
3. You push the VCR button first and then ...

It is possible that exactly one of the above will work (I'm not sure which). The instructions should have told you which.

If you started by pushing the VCR button then you push the VCR button again whenever you want to control or select something from the Apex box after having selected something for the DVD player or TV.

Are you sure that the Apex code in the remote control setup instructions includes Apex converter boxes as opposed to just Apex DVD players?

Thanks. That is pretty much what I did, try each one.

I can't find any instructions, but did find some online, not from the company.

I also googled the Apex converter box code. Several posted that it was NOT in the manual that came with the Apex but that they found it and were posting for others who may be looking for one.

I may have to just get another remote. I think this one isn't working with the converter box.
