Profile of a DVCer ...

Hey Andy,

You're a perfect example of what I meant. We've never met but thanks to these boards I know where you got your name and that you love rock shrimp! ;)

Oh Boy, do I love my Rock Shrimp!!!

Actually, I would like to add the following....

I did my own sort of profiling in an earlier post but I think it got lost in the shuffle (3 replies and low views) due to a dull subject line (or maybe it just wasn't as funny as I thought when I wrote it?!?)

Anyway it fits this thread....

So in honor of my fellow posters I submit the following poster analysis:

Bashful - Afraid to ask questions for the fear of looking dumb. Not here. Everyone here looks to help regardless of how often the question has been asked.
Happy - All posters who just added on (or finally signed up after a long wait or won the ROFR)
Doc - Webmaster Doc. Always helping and even taking time to do SS spy missions for us.
Sleepy - All posters who give us the "live" reports while they are actually there after a full day at the parks.
Dopey - Anyone who takes a humorous poke at fun seriously (although I admit sometimes it is hard to tell, other times it is very obvious.)
Grumpy - Toliet paper, garbage, thermostats, parking etc. (And before you get mad at me please see Dopey )
Sneezy - Rich's alergeic reaction when he stays anywhere but OKW!

I guess I'm Dopey most of the time, at least that's what my DW and DD would say!!! LOL!!!

I'm single. I'm 42 and work as a systems analyst for a health insurer in Harrisburg, PA. My Mom first took me to Disneyworld in 1973 and we have been going ever since. I now take her to Disneyworld. She lives with me and I take care of her.

I bought into DVC in 1999. I started out with 270 pts, then did an add on to bring my total to 350. I just added another 150 to bring my total to 500. My parents didn't have much money, but my Mom made sure she got me to WDW multiple times. I feel very fortunate to be able to afford to own DVC now and provide her with a wonderful place to stay!

We go to WDW 4 times a year. My Mom has had many health problems, so I want to go as much as possible while she can still travel. Our home resort is BWV. The folks at WDW have created some very special memories for my Mom and I. I am very happy and proud to call BWV home.

I see this thread is up to 15 pages. I originally posted on page 7--last August!! So, I was definately interested to see what people had to say.

We are currently doing construction on our home and sometimes I feel guilty when I am planning my trips to DVC when there is such turmoil around us and we have all of the impending construction bills, but it was something said by "FOR THE LOVE OF DISNEY" that really struck home with me.

When we go "HOME" it is definately the time when our family gets to spend that very memorable time togehter. Owning DVC and making those plans ensures that we will have those times. If we waited until we had enought money to plan a trip and were ohterwise debt free, we would never go.

I also feel like although those of us who say we bought DVC "for the kids" are really kids at heart and want to share that "never grow up" feeling w/ our kids.

Lou-I agree w/ you re: reading the posts of those we know from the boards. It is a past time-when I am not planning our next trip "HOME".

Well, we are a middle class family. My DH is a Sherriffs Officer and I am a Professional in the Medical Field. We joined DVC 1 1/2 years ago and wish that we had bought sooner...like on our honeymoon 4 years ago. We have a DD who is 8 years old and keeps getting excited with the prospect of a Disney Vacation every year.

We have worked very hard to get into this club. With every vacation it is a blessing to know that we can relax and enjoy our time together. We are a Disney addicts! Can you believe that we have even decorated our spare bedroom and bathroom with a Disney theme?! It's our obsession. Thank you!

As a child I have vivid memories of spending vacations with my parents at the WDW resort. We always stayed at the Comtemporary in the tower. So since my childhood, I have always stayed there. My DH has memories of the same with his parents. People that talk to us or see us think we are crazy because our perfect vacation is with Disney. They believe that we should spend our money going on cruises, all-inclusive resorts or just plain travel to exotic places. We can pretty much get all that using our Disney Vacation Club and still feel satisfied about being a part of this very large family......The Walt Disney Family.

We got married 9 years ago at BC.... and have gone just about once a year since then, but resisted buying in the DVC.

That changed once I had my daughter, too hard to get around with a toddler in a hotel room.

We've bought, and added on, because we want to spend time with both our parents, while we and they can enjoy it.

DH and DW are both computer programmers, and made good money, but even with offering to pay, the grandparents didn't want to go.

After buying DVC, we just say, oh, well, I guess well just have to sell the points..... And now they come, and enjoy. (So we've had to add on twice). We have OKW, and BCV.

During these last 3 years, DW (me) lost my job, and was out of work for 1 year, which was humbling, to say the least. Somehow, we were able to hang onto our DVC, and believe it or not, I (DW) work in VA as a consultant during the week, and fly back to Chicago to see DH and DD on weekends.

So if anyone knows of any QA or programming opportunities in Chicago area, please contact me at: goldilocks_63@yahoo.com

In the meantime, it's the Disney Vacations that are the light at the end of the tunnel for us. ;)

DH is 44, DW is 40, and DD is 5

I'm single, no kids, and have been going to WDW off and on since the year it opened. I just bought 100 pts resale in April, after spending "family reunion" time at VWL thanks to the generosity of another family member. Realized that since I'm averaging a trip a year or so to my "spiritual home" DVC was a sensible investment.

The resale contract came with the first year's points that were already in the Disney Collection and had to be used before September, so in April I treated my sister to two nights at AKL Concierge. (Darn!):smooth:

I forgot all about this thread! I've been meaning to post since we finally joined so here goes...

Me, a 30-year old graphic designer for a national farm/truck dealer publication. My DH, a 30-year old deputy sheriff.

We made our first trip to WDW during the 25th anniversary celebration in Jan. 1998. This was our first WDW trip ever (we were both 25) and my DH's first trip to FL period. We liked it so we went back on our honeymoon (this is when we took the DVC tour at the Boardwalk). Well, we couldn't afford it then (or so we thought of course). We have been back in Sept. 2000 for our 1st anniversary, then in Sept. 2001 plus I went in Sept. 2002 w/my mom (her first WDW trip ever-- she was 58!). So we decided this would probably be best for us.

We decided that if we were going to join that we had better go ahead and join before we had kids. We knew we'd never get around to joining if we waited. So we closed on 150 points at BCV on March 25, 2003. Then found out on May 5, 2003 that we are having our first child due Dec. 31, 2003! Talk about timing, huh?

There's the spiel...:D

and that's pretty neat.

I'm 42, DH is 46 and we have two kids DS7 & DD10. Married 19 years and still going strong . . . right dear? Seriously, we just joined, haven't even been "home" yet and wished we'd done it sooner. It seemed natural to join when we realized how many times we'd been to WDW before and since we've had children and I have a passion for nice hotels.

We're middle class too . . . although our travel style makes people suspect we're more well off. Like so many of you, travel is our biggest priority. DH has a sign business and I have a promotional products business . . . run separately for the sake of the marriage . . . I admit it, I'd be too bossy. This way we share ideas, but don't get in each other's way. Anyway, we do the family thing with all the activities and our businesses and live for the next vacation where we really do get that quality time which is so hard to spend with the speed of our lives.

I'm so glad someone started this, because I was the same way . . . wondering what the DVC member profile was.

We're a lot alike in that we love to travel to Disney and realize the value of memories over a lot of stuff!

I got my own personal animated smiley! I've arrived. And aren't they cute! Thanks! I always get a chuckle out of them and I never expected one directed my way!

It's been a couple of months since I've had a chance to meet some new neighbors. So, here's a bump!

I am a career federal law enforcement officer, who after almost 30 years in the field is looking towards retirement. DW is a Personnel Mgmt Spec (also w/Uncle S) and we have a 15 year old DS. In the last 7 years since moving back to the east coast (we live in the DC metro area), we have been to DW at least once a year.

We had been interested in DVC for a number of years, but last year while on the DCL, we met a number of passengers who were sporting DVC caps, shirts, bags, etc. When I inquired, they said they used their points for the cruise. That sold us. Last September we bought on resale with BWV our home resort.

My fiancee and I just put our deposit down for SSR.

I am a 26 year-old aerospace engineer (Not a rocket scientist though, I design/redesign aircraft). My fiancee is a 24 year-old software engineer. We have wanted DVC for a while but the time was never right. With the incentives for SSR and the extended use year, the timing is just right.

I am the disney freak in the family. We got engaged at midnight New Years Eve (2001/2002) on a fireworks cruise watching the MK's show. Can't wait for our first trip home!

Melissa :D

edited to fix spelling

DH is 34, me too, and twin boys - 5yrs old (starting SCHOOL in the fall:eek: ) Hubby is a pharmacist, and I'm SATH...thinking about rejoining the work force....maybe! We save like crazy for vacations...because who wants to spend vacation stepping on lego bits in the hotel room?;) Much rather step on them in a 1bdr at BCV!

First trip to WDW was with Dad, mom, and two brothers...EPCOT wasn't even built yet...our first family trip was last year...DH's first time too. We won a trip from Kodak! See, real people do win those things! So, one HOT afternoon at AK (why does it always seem so hot there?), we approached the yellow SUV, and as soon as we heard "supervised Child Care while you take an airconditioned tour "- easy marks that we were;) , off we went, and realized that this was for us. Saved our pennies, and prayed the US/CDNexchange would get better (happily, it did!) and last day of BCV sales, we did it!
...thinking about an add on....:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I haven't posted here in quite some time so I love this thread! DH and I bought DVC after our honeymoon at the GF in 2000. I always loved WDW but my DH had never been there. Needless to say, he is now as addicted as the rest of us! We are from a Detroit suburb--DH is an industrial engineer in management at a large automotive company. I am currently working on a PhD in Interpersonal Communication and work in Human Resources. We have an amazing 15 month old, who went to WDW when he was 6 months old (and of course, cried the whole time on the plane!). DH and I both feel VERY fortunate to be able to share such wonderful vacations with our friends and family. DVC is truly the greatest joy in our lives (aside from our fussy, crying son). ;)
