Process for transferring points

Could someone please tell me how easy/difficult it is for one member to transfer points to another member? Is it just a matter of the transferring member calling member services and providing the account number of the transferee?

Many thanks.

Yes it is that easy. However, DVC has just announced or exercised their option to only allow one transfer per member. So, if you are going to do this, just know that you will not be able to make another transfer to or from someone for another year (not sure if it's calendar or use year).

One transfer (either in or out) per membership, per Use Year.

Member Services will handle all of the details- be aware that this is an irreversible transaction.

Has it been determined yet about the "member/membership" definition yet. I have one contract at SSR in my name only and my DH and I have one at OKW in both names. I usually just bank and borrow and it has not been an issue. With a total of 3 trips this past year I am into my 2007 points so this just might be the year I would need to transfer for next year if we want to get in a trip and if each member can only have one transfer how can I do it between accounts since one in and one out would be two. I know I can use them both at seven months but am not clear on whether it would be a transfer if I just needed 20 points from one to make the reservation complete using all the rest from the other, if they just do it that way or consider it a transfer. :confused3 The more I think about it the more I believe that this is not just the professsional renter thing but also the not being able to track the original home resort which is tied with it. The big time renters with large contracts will still find ways to get around it but it will require some effort and possibly money on their part. It will stop the ones who purchase at $8 a point to resell at $11-$15 because they will not be able to get that many transfers into their 50 point contracts now. They may even have to sell contracts and rebuy to do it. Don't think that will be so profitable.
I do rent points from time to time to pay for non DVC trips or help with MFs but don't think for myself or others who rent in this fashion the "new" policy of actually following what is in the POS will hurt us. I always thought this was the way it worked anyway. We did transfer in one point while making a reservation one time between my daughter's membership and mine. It did not require an extra call to MS but I can also see where members calling to transfer small numbers of points multiple times is tying up MS phone lines just as much as renters calling to confirm reservations. I still hope they change the recording for MS so the first thing someone hears is that it is a member only line and you will have to provide a member number and SS before you can talk to an advisor. As it is now someone is tying up the line only to be told after a 10 minute wait that they can't get the answer they want.

I had a transfer Monday for a Apr 06 uy in one membership
Today I had one in a 05 uy in another membership.

So you are saying you have two membership numbers, and each number was allowed a transfer. That's the way it should work.

This whole discussion about limiting transfers to once per year is confusing me greatly (we're new members, so maybe that's why)...but here's our situation; perhaps one of you knowledgeable folks can tell me the impact:

We bought at SSR. We have a good friend who owns at BWV. We're thinking of "swapping homes" next year. He'd like to stay at SSR and we'd like to stay at BWV...at the 11-month window, I was going to make a reservation for him at SSR; also at the 11-month window, he was going to make one for us.

I was just going to let MS tell me whether I should do points transfers, or if I could just make the ressie under my contract with him staying in our studio at SSR (and he would make our reservation under his contract w/us staying his his studio at BWV)--

Would this still work? Or is this one-year transfer limitation going to mess us up (my friend lets his sister use his points every year, so we'd be a "second transfer" for him...if he's limited to one, this plan won't work).

Thanks for any light you can shed on this confusing situation...

The easiest way to do this is to have your friend reserve in their account under your name and you do the reverse.

Sorry for the newbie questions but...

1. If you buy points at two resorts (say 200 at SSR and 200 at BWV) with the same use year. Is this considered one contract or two?
2. And, If you wanted to sell only the SSR points could you, or would you be forced to sell them both?
3. If you wanted to use all 400pts at once would you need to do a transfer?

Thanks in advance...

You could sell them separately. You could also potentially buy say 150 points at SSR then 50 pts at SSR, and four 50 pt BWV contracts. As to whether they've be one or separate, that depends, it could be either. Assuming they are the same use year they'd USUALLY be one master contract from a use standpoint but multiple from a sales standpoint.

This is so confusing too for me. Will this ever affect me? I have a master .0 and 2 smaller contracts .1 and .2 (all the same contract and same UY) Transfering doesn't seem to be something I would need to do? right? I just tell MS which account the points need to come out of--right? I struggle just to use my banked points, so my biggest problem is just trying to use those points. Please give me a scenario of why transferring would be something I would need to do, unless it was to transfer points to one of my friend...right? But I could just book a ressie in their name....? Sorry, just trying to understand. I'm only a baby just turning one year old this month as a DVC member. I don't rent my points, but do book ressies for my big kids when they travel with us.

This would not likely affect your usage of your points but it could affect you in other ways. However, there is no rule that multiple contacts under one umbrella are to be used together. The rules applied stringently could treat them as totally separate and require transfers to use the points together.
