^I honestly thought it was quite comfy to be stopped in that position. The only stop I didn't like was in the Chamber of Secrets, when the vehicle was tilted 45ish degrees to the side.
But before an evacuation, the vehicles are returned to their "home" position (forward facing, and level, like in the video above.)
