I was at HHI 2 years ago, and going in 3 days, and was wondering if there are any "gate crashers" at HHI?? By this I mean people using the pool at the beach house, by opening the gate? The gate was always unlocked/open using a rock when we were there..

As a matter of fact, my niece was staying at HHI last year, and staying down the beach (hilton) and she used the disney pool with her friends..l found this out later..

Another ODD incident... I was at the pool by the resort, and getting some sun on a chair, and a man sat down beside my wife and I. We got to talking, and he was from my hometown! He knew my brother, etc.. Well, we talked for a while, and I said, " How do you like it at Disney here?" and he said, "Oh, we are NOT staying here, we are down the road at the xyz resort, we rode our bikes up here, and enjoying the pool" I was floored! We talked for a little longer, and I said, "I don't think you are supposed to be here".. A little while longer, he left....

He was there about 1 hour, but HOW WIERD was that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has this happened to anyone, or just me???

I haven't had such a thing happen, but I would quickly report it if for no other reason than security purposes. Given the laid back atmosphere at HHI in general, I'm not surprised by such occurences, but were I the management, I'd want to be made aware of circumstances where unauthorized folks were using a bennie meant for others.

Several times during our stays the staff has asked to see resort ID's and has issued bracelets...the kind they issue at BYC at WDW. During our stay the gate was operational. The major problem we have had and didn't experience this year is unsupervised children. Adults on beach, kids at pool. We don't spend too much time at the beach pool, but use the resort pool in the evening.

Don't worry, IF it happens this time, I will report it, and make the guy/group/whatever feel like crap! Not to mention embarassement to them!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately this happens at a lot of Hotels that are in suburban areas. My uncle owns a hotel on the bay, and people who live in the surrouding beach houses and condos are always using his pool and execise facilities. They act like it belongs to the community :sad2:

I witnessed this on our last trip to HHI.

They were checking room cards @ the beach house, and the family next to us didn't have one. The woman made up a story about how they forgot it...yadda, yadda, yadda. They asked her room number and she said something like 802. She looked like a total fool and set a horrible example for her children.

They were asked to leave, and they did.

????????

We have been there the past 5 years and have never seen them checking room cards. A college friend and I were talking once about HH and she asked where we stay when we go, and when I said Disney she told me how she and another friend and their kids ride their bikes over to Disney and use the pool when they go to HH. They stay at another location. She was commenting on what a nice pool it is. I was floored. I think they better start checking more!

Jim Fritz,
Did you NOT understand me?? I would report it (if I found out they were "trespassing", and report them to lifeguard/etc, and have them removed and watch them craw out with the tails behind them...
The above means embarassing them in case you did not understand..

What is wrong with that?? Should I LET them use our facilities that we pay dues for, and let them use our pool/towels,etc....

No, I understood you the first time. I thought it was a little harsh, and now that you want them crawling out with their tail between their legs just confirms that.

They shouldn't use the pool, but we dont need to tar and feather them either. A simple comment to a CM and the situation is handled.

Jim
I gotcha, I understand, I guess after 48 years on the planet Earth, I am tired of STUPID PEOPLE!!! IF you are not a guest at the hotel/Disney/anywhere, then why the h... do you go sit yourself down on a chair, use the pool, use the towels, etc???

If you cannot read, then I understand, but some people (to quote Jay Leno,
are morons!!)..

I am still going to tell the CM or whoever, and laugh/snicker,etc...

DeerH

On another note: (back on topic), I have never had my room card checked at HHI, I hope that they start this procedure, I for one am for it....

Jim,
Wasn't talking to you, I mean the people that use the pool, etc that are NOT guests of the resort..

You might also close the gate and get rid of the rock that holds it open. I always close it, if someone has propped it open.

Ok, here is a quick question. Could a DVC member who was not staying at the resort use the facilities? My parents live an hour away in Savannah, GA. Often times when we are visiting them, we head up to HH for the day. My parents and I are both DVC members. Could we use the pool while we were up there for the day? Or is that considered trespassing since we are not "staying" there? It is just "pool hopping". ;)

You aren't supposed to use the facilities if you are not a registered guest. It is the same as staying at a non-DVC resort and "pool hopping" to a DVC resort while at WDW. It is a no-no.

Technically, you shouldn't be able to get into the entire area since you wouldn't have a parking pass for the guard to see and let you in at the Palmetto Dunes guard shack (I suppose you could walk or ride a bike) and you shouldn't be able to get into the pool area specifically because you need a room key to open the door.

We went off season and it was locked and we had to have our parking pass to get into the Palmetto Dunes area. Maybe in the summer months, it becomes a "hassle"? I can't see why but I suspect it is because the "non-confrontational" aspects of Disney spill over into their training there as well.

I am sure the employees aren't leaving the gate open - that it is people where 1/2 the family is on the beach and the other 1/2 at the pool and they dont want to be bothered to go and open the gate for the remaining family members. CMs should shut the gate, but if one isn't around, I certainly have no problem shutting it.

The people I know were using the pool at the resort itself -- Big dipper pool.

I think this is only a "seasonal" problem, but should not be allowed at all- anytime! The only people to use the pool are people with ressies. Also, good point about the gate pass at Palmetto Dunes, but being a "bike Friendly" place, people I am sure bike/walk to Disney to use there pool- THERE lies the problem!!!

P.S. I am sure it is not just Disney property- Marriotts, Holiday Inn, etc, I am sure have their share of "gate Crashers"!!

DeerH

Again, STUPID PEOPLE cannot read signs: For Holiday Inn guests only, For Disney Guests Only!!

Sorry, This is a real pet peve of mine!!

When we were there in April, the gates to the Beach House were always locked and required a room key to enter. People were very good about shutting and locking the gates. Indeed, we had trouble getting in and out because of a flaw in our room keys that required them to be reissued three times during our stay (some of which was our fault as at least once we unknowingly demagnitized them). Sneaking in to use the Big Dipper pool, however, would have been quite easy and I am sure is done on a regular basis.

I couple of years ago, I could not sleep for a few nights due to a very heated exchange on these boards over this very issue. Unless you have been here for a while, you might not know that HHI's DVC was thought to be the worst resort in Disney inventory and a complete waste. Many people thought it would be ok to use HHI as a rest stop on their way to WDW. People were incouraged to lie to the front desk and tell them they wanted a tour or wanted to stop at the gift shop. When you do this they let you in and ask you to park in the guest spot. Then move your car to the resort spots and just go to the pool. No one would ever know. This did not make me happy because this takes parking spaces from those who has to bring bags up to the rooms and makes more bodies than needed at the pool.

what made it heated was that I was flamed and made to look like the bad guy for saying that It teaches your kids its ok to sneak in where you don't belong.
