Problems with air travel during the summer?

I will visit WDW in 2 weeks for a weekend trip. I dont have PTO at new job yet so had to take 8pm flight out from my east coast city to Orlando. This route often gets delayed which is ok, but i dont want to be stranded! How bad is air travel during July to FL? Returning home I picked a 10am flight so I can perhaps combat the volatile weather

Also check out flightaware.com and flightstats.com, which have detailed tracking of delays (and cancellations) for each route/airline. A free membership gives you access to slightly more history.

Then, on the day of (or before) your flight with flightaware, you can see where your airplane is scheduled to come from (going back several cities) before it picks you up. (This can change significantly at the last minute, though. Some airlines also have this functionality on their websites.)

Finally, on the day of your flight you can check out https://nasstatus.faa.gov/, which shows which ATC sectors and airports are having ATC (or weather-induced ATC) problems.

More than likely, there won't be anything out of the ordinary. But, as mentioned, weather at any of the cities the aircraft is flying into/from can cause problems, as can mechanical problems.

Figure Orlando will probably have some delays around 3p-5p as afternoon storms go through. But Hurricane season has officially started, if one comes up the Atlantic seaboard, you can really end up in trouble.

Last week we had to circle near Jacksonville for a bit due to lightning activity at Orlando International mid afternoon.

i had 6 flights this summer and all of them had delay 2hours + . Was i just "lucky"? Or do you guys have the same experience?
It just depends on a lot of factors with airline and route being primary. I had 4 flights so far this summer, 1 delay and that was due to a FL afternoon storm.
