Problems getting reservation for 1 at 'Ohana on computer system

Hi there, folks! Going to WDW in mid-January, which I hear is a great time to go insofar as the parks aren't going to be too crowded. I'm certainly looking forward, as I haven't been to Disney in almost 20 years!

I've been trying to get a reservation for 'Ohana, which I have heard is really a lot of fun, though of course, it's wildly popular. Now when I use the on-line reservation function, it says there are no dinner times available for 1 person, yet when I put in for 2 people, it comes up with some 9:00 p.m. or later seatings, which would be fine with me. I have gotten some 1-person seatings at other restaurants (heck, I even lucked into a Le Cellier lunch on my last day), but I'm wondering if the Disney reservation system at some restaurants (especially 'Ohana) is stacked against single diners?

Could I possibly book a 2-person reservation and then a day or so later try to change it to a 1-person, saying that someone cancelled and see what happens? Or could I try to wait until while I am on property and try for a walk-up?

Thanks for your help.

I think that with the new CC guarantee policy, if you made an ADR for 2 and cancelled one person the day of you'd get a $10 no-show fee for the second person. Have you tried calling the dining line to see if there's some way they can get the system to take it? Good luck!:goodvibes

ETA: OOPs, I misread, you wanted to call back a day or so after making the reservation, I read that as you wanted to cancel the second diner the day of the reservation. So sorry!!! My bad!

That's what I would do. Make the reservation for two, then call and have a CM change it to a party of one. For some reason I've always had a trouble getting an ADR for one at some of the Signature restaurants. I always just made the ADRs for two and told them when I checked in. With the new cc guarantee I won't be able to do that anymore, so will have to make an ADR for two, then call and have a CM modify it to one or else take my chances as a walk up. At Ohanas I wouldn't take the chance of trying for a walkup, unless it at opening (arriving a good 40 minutes before opening to get into the walk up line) or close to closing.

That's what I'm going to do during my May trip. I love the Signature restaurants and usually dine mainly at them during my solo trips, but refuse to give the cc guarantee. I made ADRs for restaurants that don't require the cc guarantee for around 7:30pm, but plan on trying to walk up at a few of my favorite Signatures around 5:00pm to see if I can get in. If I can, I'll cancel my other reservation for that night. I hate to do it that way, but with the number of Signature restaurants I do each trip (at least 7), refuse to give them my cc number. If I dine at Ohanas anymore it will be as a walk up. I'm glad I was able to get all of my Feb ADRs before the cc guarantee thing went into effect. We have alot of meals planned at restaurants that now require the cc guarantee (including alot of character meals for my 3 y/o GS, Le Cellier, and dinners at Cape May and Ohana). We plan on keeping everyone of them, but with a 3 y/o who knows.

Thanks very much for your replies. It just seems that the system is not set up for that restaurant to acknowledge a single party reservation.
