Problem with the VMK shirts? Safety follow-through?!

No names on mouse ears? Or how about a happy birthday sticker from Disneyland that you get at City Hall so all the cast members can wish you a happy birthday by name? Sorry, but I don't think you're in any more danger by putting something as simple as a first name on something you own than you are just walking around normally. Disney has been selling personalized shirts in their catalogues for years. If it really was such a problem then I would think we would see a decrease in the market of kids' things with names on them. (pins, necklaces, etc.) Like erinsgirl, when I was young my mom told me that she would never EVER ever under any circumstances send someone to pick me up that I didn't already know, and to never TALK to anyone I didn't know no matter what they say. I just thought this was simple stranger danger logic. Now if your kid is wearing a shirt that says, "My name is Mary Smith and I live at 123 Maple Drive", then that's another story....

Besides, if a kid was wearing a shirt with his name on it, wouldn't he know it? :confused3 (ok, so maybe sometimes kids forget these things. But what they should never forget is that they shouldn't be talking to strangers.)

I know many times I've left work with my name badge still on my clothes and have someone address me by name and I'm confused as to if I know this person (like I said before there are a lot of people who know my name who I can't place- bad with names to begin with but I do a lot of public speaking) and then I look down and roll my eyes for forgetting to take off my name badge.

Hmmmmmm Well I can say this with all honesty... but the truth is, anyone within 25 feet of my family will know all of our kids names, in minutes....

"Charlie get back here" " Maddie quit hitting your sister" No Juju you can not have another mickey bar"

No T-shirts needed....

With that said... I have already started talking to our kids about dangerous poeple and the tricks they use to hurt kids. First and foremost, there is NO PUPPY. No grownup needs the help of kids to find anything.

Still, I have yet to get the kids anything with their names on it, not for saftey, but so I can use everything as hand me downs.... :rotfl2:

Too True

We are not all going to agree...and that's ok :). All I can add is...begin teaching your child basic safety on in life...even before they can talk. Children are able to take in what you give them, as long as it is age-related. Help them remember their name and address, city and state, mom and dad's names, and other information. Repeat them over and over :). Teach them that they should never speak or go with anyone, even if they say that their parents sent them. And those code words should only be used by older children IMO -- code words need to be said loud enough, and if a child is asking a stranger what the code word is, they're already engaging in a conversation and need to stay at a certain distance in order to hear. If you decide to have your child use a code word, tell them to stay at a safe distance and to shout lol. Gosh, ok I think I've wasted enough space...
