Problem with Park Hoppers bought on ebay

No, no...I've never done this and I know that it's against the rules, but do you know of anyone who has bought tickets on ebay and been burned?

I can't get over how many pages of Disney ticket auctions can be found on ebay, or the number of bids some of these auctions receive!! I remember when Disney used to just rubber stamp the ticket when you entered and although they were non-transferable, anyone could use unused days.

I've had an AP for as long as I can remember, and haven't bought a Park Hopper in forever, but the Park Hoppers are linked to the name of the purchaser so you can't sell unused days, right?

If you bought the old Park Hoppers on ebay, before they are used, you might be able to convert them into MYW tickets, but people are selling the Park Hoppers for less than they paid for them. What's the incentive to sell?

No, I haven't bought any park tickets on Ebay. Although, I have sold one ticket before on there. I wasn't aware that it was against the rules though. The ticket I sold was unused and I had to sell it to pay for my AP that I decided to buy at the last minute.

I don't believe that Park Hoppers are linked to the name of purchaser. MYW tickets may be this way, but I don't think regular Park Hoppers are.

I don't think they make "park hoppers" anymore - everything is MYW.

So that's why you see so many Park Hoppers online. I know that WDW will convert them to MYW tickets at the parks. If no name is linked to a Park Hopper, then it make sense to sell them on ebay. I get it!

Oh Wow! I would never buy tickets off Ebay you are taking such a HUGE chance... I have seen people turned away at the entry gate because their tickets were not valid, the look of shock on peoples faces and their poor children is enough to make me buy my tickets thru disney or mapleleaf only!!

Also, alot of these places that sell the tickets are legit companies in the Orlando area, that have stores on Ebay.
Yeah, I think you're right! There are a couple sellers that allow you to actually pick up the tickets at Disney's will call once you get there. I guess these resellers buy in huge bulk amounts and Disney discounts to them. It looks like you could get a pretty good savings by going through ebay.

I was one of the unlucky (or stupid) ones who bought tix on ebay and got burned. For our 2002 trip, I bought 2 PH passes w/4 park days plus 2 options. We were going to use the options to go to BB (which we did) and PI. Well when we got to PI, the ticket didn't work. We really didn't want to go that badly, so instead of paying to get in, we just walked around DTD.

When I got home, I emailed the seller, and after a few back-and-forth emails, I think she refunded me $40. So I guess it worked out OK, but I'd never do it again, unless there was a way to chec and see what was on the tix before you buy them!

Totally unused tickets are transferable.

There is no way to verify now many days are remaining on a ticket until after you get to Disney.

There is no way to prove that a ticket purchased on eBay had or did not have the days it was described to have.

Until or unless better buyer protection is added to eBay ticket sales, it is unwise to buy tickets on eBay.

If and when better buyer protect is added to eBay ticket sales, no wise seller will offer any tickets.

The tickets I bought on Disauctions actually had one more day than the seller had thought. Plus, they cost less than the regular Disney price.

If you like the hold-ups created by having to scan everyone's fingers now, and if you're prepared to have a completely bogus ticket, go ahead and buy on E-Bay.

After reading the boards for the past 5 years I can assure you there have been many, many DIS-ers who have been burned by purchasing on E-bay. You're buying a 'ticket', not park visits. If you get the ticket the seller has fulfilled their obligation. They don't promise you'll get into any of the parks.

Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and avoid purchasing tickets on E-Bay. Just my opinion, of course. Feel free to think otherwise.

Eons ago I bought what I thought was a 4 day park hopper ticket for my boyfriend. Turns out it was a Play 4 Days ticket with the seller's name stamped right on the back!!!! Definitely not what was advertised! Luckily we "upgraded" the ticket at Guest Relations and they never asked to see an ID. However, those stupid Play 4 Days tickets only cost FL residents $99 and I think I paid $160 plus over $100 to upgrade it! Needless to say, that guy never answered my e-mails.

I have sold unused tickets on e-Bay before. I had a print out from Disney confiming they were never used. I believe eBay law states that the tickets must be completely unused and cannot sell for more than a small percentage above the original cost.

Becareful where you get your tickets. There was a crack down on ticket sellers along 192 selling partially used tickets at discounted rates. It is illegal in Florida to sell tickets that have been used but have remaining days left on them regardless if they have proof that the remaining days are valid.

What about the ebay sellers that direct customers to pick up the tickets at Guest Relations at Disney? Am I nuts to think they must be legit? There would be an easy way to find out if the tickets were bogus...just call Walt Disney World, right?

I disagree with those who generalize that buying any tickets off of eBay is risky.

I purchased tickets for Sea World in San Diego, Legoland in California and the Ringling Brothers Circus at Madison Square Garden off of eBay (with large discounts by the way) and had no problems whatsoever using any of them. Want to pay full price at the gate? Be my guest.

However, because Disney can now check the original ownership of tickets (via fingerprints), I wouldn't buy those tickets on eBay.

The bottom line for buying anything on eBay is review the feedback ratings of the seller. Credible sellers are those with (a) high percentages of positive feedback from a wide range of long term buyers and (b) who have been selling on eBay using the same I.D. for a long time (ergo, years, not months).

Sellers who try to create "fake" good feedback can be identified easily; the feedback quotes are always from a handful of new eBay members and the seller usually has an I.D. that is no more than few weeks old (they keep changing them so their negative feedback doesn't add up).

I agree, and have bought many things, albeit never park tix, on ebay, and have never been disappointed.
I think that because the ebay sellers are only selling Park Hoppers, which have been discontinued and after they run out, will be no more, and not selling MYW tix, which reqire your name and biometric finger measurements, they get around the ID problem.
The Park Hoppers are turned into MYW tix once you get to gate/Guest Services at WDW.
I find this whole thing very interesting and just might tell family members to buy on ebay if the price is right! The savings look great!

I've been watching the ticket prices on ebay for about two months. I'm finding they sell pretty high. I was planning on buying a few, but can't justify saving 10 to 20 $ and taking the chance of bad tickets. I even saw tickets today forsale with the seller saying his name was on the back(said they would not check id at gate). :rotfl2: Who wants to take that chance? :confused3 Its kind of fun searching and looking for a deal, but I don't think the people buying these really know how much they cost. Compare the prices to Mapleleaf online. My sister has used this company and there about as cheap as your going to find. Tina

I just bought my tickets on ebay. I bought from a seller who has a large feedback and 99.9% feedback. These were advertised as 2 day park hopper tickets. When I got them, they came directly from Disney and I found out that they are convention tickets. These were alot cheaper than I could find anywhere else. The price that the seller paid for the tickets were right on the letter from Disney. The seller made about $10 a ticket. I'm hoping I dont run into a problem when I go to use them. It looks like I might not have a problem.

The funny thing is, those tickets aren't really worth even $20, but they'll go for maybe $5 under what ticketmania would sell em for. I've seen tix go for over list. It's really quite hilarious actually. I wonder what daddy thinks when he gets down there and finds out that great deal he got was over list price and then lo and behold ooops, his day was the one in 10 they decided to check ID...

I was looking at Disney mechandise on Ebay. You should see how much refillable mugs are going for

Pre-2005 park hoppers may be used as-is and do not convert into MYW tickets automatically. You may trade up one old ticket towards a new MYW ticket although the exchange rate is not great.

Effective about June 2005 old park hoppers use the biometric scan at the turnstile and the next person who uses the ticket becomes the owner.

ahh Convention tickets. Sometimes they're only good for certain dates, and you may have to show proof that you're at the convention to get in. They're geting sticky about it.
