Problem with memory card.

The other week when I was uploading pics from DC from my SD card, I got an error message but managed to get the pics off eventually. When I went to look at them in ViewNX, some pictures from months before appeared in the middle of the batch I had just uploaded.

Thinking that maybe I removed the memory card when the camera was still on, I re-formatted the card when I was done and put it away, not giving it another thought.

Fast forward to today, I was shooting pics at a bridal shower. When I got home to upload the pictures, I didn't get an error message but again---pictures from months ago with my D60 showed up in the middle of the batch I had just uploaded (whether they replaced pics from today, I don't know).

I'm unsure of whether this was the same card or not, but can anyone lens a guess at why this would be happening?

I know that today I made sure to always turn the camera off before removing the memory and re-formatted all of the cards before use.

Thoughts?? :confused3

So were the picture numbers out of sequence or were they just in the batch? And you said you were not certain it was the same card or not?

What is the brand of the card and how old is it? Size of the card? Are you reformatting on the computer or in the camera?

The numbers were all in sequence. The old images that were in the middle of the batch were given new numbers.

Unfortunately, that is correct--I'm not sure if it's the same card. I didn't even think to check and haven't gotten around to numbering them yet so once they're back in the heap they're all the same.

All of my cards are SanDisk brand SD cards, mostly Extreme III and all at the max only 6 months old, bought a bunch when I got the D60. The card was 4GB. Reformatting in the camera.

I have had something somewhat similar to my cards happen. My card would show a great big question mark with an error under in the thumbnail view (on the camera or on the computer when uploading from the camera). I was able to get the photos still, just not see them in a preview :confused3. Luckily, everytime I have had that happen it was a smaller memory card which I just threw away.

I have a question. Do you take a photography and then erase them in the camera? I'm asking because I do this and I'm trying soooo hard to stop this practice. Anyways, I've experienced some similiar issues. It may sound strange but , it's only on the Sandisk Extreme II CF card. Problem was solved when I reformatted the card.

Mine were Sandisk cards also. I freaked out and just pitched mine.

I typically format mine in my camera.

were you using a separate card reader when you got the error message? wondering cause i hadn't used 2 cards cause i couldn't get photos off them last time i did. had to use them yesterday and they worked fine. thinking it was the card reader that was messing up rather than the card in my case since that was the only thing that changed i my case.

if you are reformatting the cards in camera though it would seem for some reason it didn't work in that case since i thought it cleared the whole thing when it was formatted. if it happened on more than one card i might think it was a camera glitch since what are the chances you got more than one bad card or maybe there is an issue with that particular type of card and your camera when formatting.

Not sure if this was for me, or WillowBelle, but no---I don't delete photos in camera. I would LOVE to but after hearing so many reports of corrupt cards, I stopped. Haven't done it since getting a my dslr in September.

I believe my problem has only been on my Extreme III SD card, because it wasn't until recently that I purchased an Ultra II and that wasn't the card I had a problem with this go-round.

Ugh.

Yep, I was using a card reader. Didn't even think about that possibly being the problem because my error message was mid-way through uploading my pics from the card, but I guess that's always a possibility.

I would put my money on the fact that it was the same card that I used last time that had an issue, but because I haven't labeled/numbered them yet, it's only a guess. All of my other Extreme III SD cards (same type as the one with the problem) seem to reformat fine, as do my Ultra II SD cards.

Hopefully I'll be able to figure out which card it is before our trip in December. I'd have to be watching Wishes for the only time of the trip only to get home and have that whole block of pics gone and replaced with pictures of my pets from 5 months earlier. :headache:
