Just waiting on the "fake" contract papers that we asked our guide to send (want to read all the fine print beforehand). DH is for it now and thinks it makes sense for us. So...assuming we do this (most likely), how do you think I should handle my May reservation? I am currently booked through a TA for a week at the Polynesian in May.

I've only paid the deposit so far. As much as I'd love to stay at the Poly in May, if we become DVC members, I will be staying in a one bedroom hopefully at the BCV ! (this is all presuming we can actually get a room at the BCV on 5 months' notice...we are flexible on dates so as long as it's May, it's okay.)

I guess the best thing would be sign up for DVC, call to get reservations for May at BCV (or whereve is open then) and then cancel the original vacation with my TA? So confusing! I also have trip insurance with my May vacation...think it can be transferred? <sigh>

Just think maybe soon I can stop asking so many questions and I'll be able to answer some! :) thanks!

You have the right idea. Even though it would be nice to stay at the Poly, you will be able to put the money that you were going to spend on the Poly room to use for yourself for the next 40 years.
We had exactly the same situation over 3 years ago when we purchased at the BWV. We ended up canceling our Poly reservation. If nothing is available for May (which I think there will be), go on a waiting list. If nothing comes through, keep your Poly reservation. If something does, cancel the Poly and think of all of the money you will save. It's like having a built in down payment when you are expecting to spend the money anyways, then you don't have to.

We just booked a two bedroom for May yesterday at BCV. Got all five days we wanted.

I was prepared to waitlist if I had needed to. I figure as more inventory is added (as they sell more of the BCV) they will be opening up more rooms.

Last year when we bought our points, our guide checked inventory for us that day and put a hold on what we needed for our trip. We also cancelled an exisiting reservation to use our points.

Good luck.

Melrosgirl, remember what it was that you told your husband that made him agree to DVC.........you'll need that when you want him to agree to an add-on! :teeth:

As far as the 'fake papers', the real nuts and bolts can be read in the public offering statement. Make sure they send you those (one muti-site, and one component site). I have read through these documents, but my eyes glazed over so I am far from an expert.

I don't find anything wrong with using points at The Poly. We are using points there in January for three concierge nights. While I agree that this is not the best use of points, It is definitely not a foolish use of points either. We Poly fans need our fix periodically.

I will be sitting back, and preparing that 'welcome home' for you.

Good luck.....

Just like Maistre Gracey i have a "Welcome Home" ready to launch

Tell your guide about your dates in May. They are often able to work some magic to get otherwise hard-to-find reservations (if that is indeed the situation).

Let him know how much you'd appreciate the help with that issue- I'll bet you get the dates you want. There is a lot of time left at this point.

Enjoy!

thanks for your help, as always :)

My guide did ask me about the dates, etc. and I told her about them. "just in case" :)

DH is even talking about adding on more points than the minimum since we are locked in at the 80 per point, so I think he realizes the value in joining now.

Will keep you posted!

Jennifer,

If getting your husband to agree to the "fake" papers is tough, you might consider a resale if "saving money" will help convince him - or if you think he might like Old Key West or Boardwalk better.

PM me if I can help with any questions about how it works.

Kind regards,
Shontell
