My one-cup Black & Decker coffeemaker is getting clogged up and dripping slow - which means it's time to clean it with vinegar again..

Unfortunately I don't have any white vinegar on hand at the moment though.. Used the last of it when I first came up here to the lake and keep forgetting to put it on my grocery list..

I do have "apple cider vinegar" though.. Could I use that - or will it kill the coffeemaker? I don't want to ruin it because the only place I can get a B&D now is to order it online (I don't care for any of the others that are available) and it would take awhile to get here..

Anyone ever used the apple cider vinegar in a pinch - or should I wait until I get the white vinegar?

I know.. This is such a serious problem... LOL..

 I guess it might get serious if you can't get that first cup of coffee tomorrow morning. I don't think it will make all that much difference whether it's white vinegar or apple cider vinegar or even red wine vinegar(which I have used in a pinch.)

Yes - this would be extremely serious.. I'm talking deadly serious!!!:mad::mad:

Hmmm.. I don't know.. No one up here to bail me out of jail right now, so maybe I better wait until my DD comes back on Friday with the white vinegar..:rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks anyhow..;)

The cider vinegar will work just FINE. It won't hurt it at all.

This.
I used the cider vinegar in my wash not too long ago, after I had run out of the white vinegar. Worked just as good as the clear stuff. LOL

Now the red wine vinegar I don't think I'd use...I think that one is a different animal.

Ok- call me dumb but...
How do you clean your coffee maker that way?
mine has started to slow down( moved and different water type- harder water)
I have never cleaned it, and I am the only one who uses it-
SERIOUS problem if I don't get coffee!!!

thanks

The vinegar approach is the only one I know. It needs to be done periodically (not just when it seems to need it), or deposits will build up so much that subsequent flushing with vinegar will be less effective. My DeLonghi coffee maker actually had a red light come on every X brew cycles to remind us to do a vinegar flush. I wish I remember how many cycles... 100 maybe? I don't recall. Now, with our new coffee maker, we do it every couple of months.

Another vote for using the cider vinegar. It won't hurt it. Balsamic vinegar not so much!

Mix one part white vinegar with 2 parts water and set coffee maker as you normally would (without the coffee!) Once the mixture has run through, let the coffee maker cool for 15-20 minutes. If you don't do this frequently or the coffee maker is badly clogged, run the same mixture through the coffee maker again. Let cool. Then reset the coffee maker and run plain water through to rinse. I usually rinse twice.

White vinegar is on the way!!! LOL.. DD and my DGD are coming up early this week - tonight instead of tomorrow night - so she's going to grab a bottle for me along with some other groceries..

Hard water is brutal on coffeemakers - which is exactly the kind of water they have (and I get) from my DD's house while I'm here at the lake.. I think after this next clean-out (and yes, I do it periodically), I may start using my purchased bottled water for my coffee instead of the jugs from DD's house..

Think I'll also go ahead and order another B&D so I'm ready when this one "goes"..

Thanks for the replies..:goodvibes

This is very serious!!! I can imagine what would happen if I didn't have coffee! I would be mad! :headache:

Apple cider vinegar is fine! Works great!

Cider vinegar would be more expensive than white. This is something to consider. I don't know about using cider vinegar. I would wait for the white vinegar.
