We are hopefully closing on a SSR purchase by 11-14-08. We need to use 98 banked points by 08-01-09 and with our schedules the best time for us to go is for 3 -4 nights after X-mas this year.:rotfl: I know from watching the availability thread that most dvc's are booked for December, but it looks like we may have a shot at 01-01-09 to 01-03-09. What is this 30 day rule I have seen, does this mean that if we don't have all of our membership info & number by December 1, we can't book for Jan. 1?:confused3

Once the purchase process is complete you can give MS a call in couple of days to see if you've been put "in the system". Usually it takes approximately 5 to 10 business days to be put into DVC system. Although there are some here who have posted recently about still not being in the system after 10 days. There is a chance it could take longer.

I think what you may be referring to about " 30 day rule " is this :

when you have a reservation booked you must cancel that reservation 31 days or more before the check-in date or those points used for the reservaton go into Holding Status. Those points then cannot be banked into your upcoming Use Year and must be used by the end of the current Use Year. If you want to make a reservation at a DVC resort with those points you would need to do that 60 days or less to the check-in date you want.

I hope I understood your question.

With 'regular' points ( ie not points in Holding Status ) you may call DVC to book 11 months in advance of your check-in date at your Home Resort & 7 months in advance at any other DVC resort; but you are not limited to having to call a minimum number of days before you'd want to check-in - we've even called in a same day reservation.

Congratulations & best wishes pixiedust:

Hi again Tink6666 !

I did think of something else that maybe you might have been wondering about when you mention ' 30 day rule '....are you wondering about the wait-list ? If so :

MS keeps your reservation request on the wait-list up to 31 days before the date you want to check-in but you can request to be kept on the wait-list beyond that by calling MS. Within 7 days of the check-in date you want there is no longer ability to wait-list but you can then call MS daily to see if you may be able to get what you are looking for.

Assuming you are buying resale, if you hope to close around mid November, I don't think you will be able to book January 1 (holiday) through January which will be only about 6 weeks later at best.

Not that you shouldn't try, but I don't think it is likely to be available.

Thanks for the info. I know I am probably not going to get in for a January 1 trip, but this is Disney and I can keep dreaming and wishing until I can't anymore pixiedust: may help me!!!
