Probability of Waitlist at VGF in October 2013

I am a new DVC member and have 120 pts at SSR (Apr use year). We have a vacation planned for Oct23-Oct28. Our preference is a studio, of course, but none are available for the full 5 nights. Since that is the first week that VGF opens, we would LOVE to stay there, even if it means borrowing a lot of points from next year. If we can't stay at VGF, we'd rather get by as cheaply as possible. I have a waitlist for VGF studio standard (91pts) - what are the chances of that? Would lake view studio have better chances? Also have waitlist for SSR studio (76pts).

The only 1BR available for the whole week is SSR for 150pts. I would go ahead and book it, but that would mean borrowing pts and I'd like to see if we can get a studio somewhere first. I only want to borrow if we can get full or partial week at VGF. Is that a bad idea?

I would really love to stay at BCV studio, but hear the chances there might be slim, which is why I waitlisted SSR studio instead.

I could get our last 2 days at VGF 1BR, but can't book those until Thurs, since today is only the 24th.

Can anyone give me any advice/guidance? I'm a little nervous that we might not even get the 1BR at SSR if I wait too long.

Thanks!

I can't help you with the VGF question, since the resort is so new. I will tell you that the week you are trying to visit is very, very busy for DVC members. It is likely that you are very low on the waitlists (especially at BCV), as most members who visit for Food and Wine book at the 11 month window, and then try to change at the 7 month window. You are trying to book a room at the 4 month window.

If I were you and had my heart set on visiting Disney that week, I would book what I could now and then hope that a waitlist fills. If you don't want to borrow points, book the SSR 1 bedroom for part of the time, and try for a split stay with a studio.

There are rooms available at VGF, but not for the first 3 nights in any category. Definitely booked what you want now so you have a place to stay. With VGF so new, there is no history to guide you, but if you want to stay opening week, I suggest the split stay and takes what's open now. As far as wait lists, single night requests are more likely to come through than anything else. For multiple day wait lists to come through, all nights have to become available at the same time.

Since VGF studios have been booked for more than 2 weeks now for opening days and that means they were all booked up by members that had bought there and probably want to stay opening week. I doubt that anything not open now will open up there later and I would guess if it did you are not at the top of the waitlist. If you want to stay there take whatever you can get and book any other parts of your vacation elsewhere. A SSR studio might come through but more than likely at this point if you don't want to pay cash you should book whatever is available. You are well within the 7 month window.

We booked a studio at SSR for Oct 15-18 about 6-7 weeks ago. We then wait listed BLT and BWV studios and after 2 weeks the WL for BLT came through. I have since heard about folks not being able to even book SSR (my SIL is wanting to book Oct 17-20). Your best chances are probably SSR and AKV (standard view). Maybe you should book the nights you can at VGF and see what you can book for the other nights or WL at SSR and AKV.
