Prix Fixe menu sharing?

Many people have already verified that the majority of restaurants will not allow sharing when using the DDP.
You are technically not allowed to share and / or split a meal if you are going to pay with the DDP.
Can you provide references for your claims? You say "many" and "majority" when a few folks have reported problems in Italy and Mexico. I don't see anything in the terms of the dining plan that prohibits sharing.

I would never go through all this. We spend enough at Disney as we go about every 7 weeks. We share all the time and my kid is 13. No one cares

It's easy to ask for an item and a time to serve it. If someone is getting 3 courses and someone else is getting one (or is getting 2 apps or an app and a dessert, etc), the server should be asking you when to serve it (and you would be doing them a favor by telling them 1st). There's nothing to "go through" with the suggestion of ordering the daughter an app and delivering it with the dinner course...it's about 20 words out of your mouth..."My daughter would like the lobster bisque as her meal and she would like it delivered during the dinner course. Thanks!" The end. I routinely have 2 apps as a meal (soup/salad) and ask for the proper order and the delivery for me (ex - soup with spouse's app and salad with his dinner). It's a simple and pretty routine request for wait staff.

Yep, I do this ALL the time. I did it twice locally this weekend. "I'll have the beet salad with his starter and the octopus with his entree, and another glass of wine." Done.

No one is making up rules except for Disney. They are allowed to make the rules because it's their park. What is stupid is they make the rules for the DDP so confusing and they keep changing them. That's not anyone's fault. That's why this is even a question and why there has been so many people all over these boards verifying that you are not supposed to share meals on the DDP. Just to keep things straight:

You can always share a meal if you pay OOP in any restaurant.

You are technically not allowed to share and / or split a meal if you are going to pay with the DDP. After further research, basically when using the DDP Disney considers a meal anyone seating in a seat at a table eating. When you are on the DDP, you use a meal credit to purchase your meal. You don't purchase an entree, you select your entree of choice for your meal. Disney portion sizes vary depending on the entree. If you order chicken you may get a much larger portion size than someone who ordered steak or lobster. Some people may not eat all the chicken and it goes to waste. Disney doesn't do 1/2 orders of an entree or only charge 1/2 price because you only eat 1/2 your food. A guest does not determine the portion size of a meal. Therefore, even if only 1 person at a table for 2 orders a meal but both people eat, the party is supposed to be charged for 2 meal credits because both people ate a meal. How much they actually ate makes no difference. You can't eat 2 meals then tell the restaurant you only want to pay for 1 meal.

Anecdotal evidence from someone claiming Disney allowed them to split a meal is not helpful. No server ever wants to be put in the position of being the meal police and ruin their chances of getting a good tip; plus, they don't make enough to deal with the aggravation either. It does help a server out if the other person in the party who doesn't want to use a meal credit at least orders an appetizer or something. That makes it easier for the server to look the other way or explain why 2 people were eating but they only charged for 1 meal credit if the server was questioned by a manager.

I know this is confusing; but, not my rule. It is unfortunately just another frustrating and unfair quirk of the DDP that all of the DDP fanatics won't admit to. We won't hear about them "disallowing" it because it always has been the rule and didn't change when they changed a rule allow people on the DDP to use their meal credits for people not on the DDP.
please cite the written rule that says each person at the table MUST use a meal entitlement if they are sitting at the table. If this is the case then you can't ever have a mixed part of DDP and non DDP people because everyone would be charged a TS meal who is sitting at the table. You are applying AYCTE rules to a regular TS. Maybe in your world that is the way it works but in the real world it's not. Except at via Napoli, where for some reason (probably related to the fact that pizza is very shareable) they do not allow sharing.

I think the point is that she doesn't want to "go through" ordering something her daughter doesn't want or need just to... what? make it feel better that they are splitting? splitting is allowed, they don't have to do anything to legitimize it, let alone order extra food they don't want or can't consume.

Sorry if mine came off that way. That is why I used words like may instead of will. It was just one of those things that in the restaurant industry a prix fixe is for 1 person not to be shared so when ever I see those words I know it may or may not work. Of course it is Disney so most likely there will be no problem but I often find going in expecting the usual and being pleasantly surprised is easier to deal with them having to come up with a back up on the spot.

Now I will agree it is interesting what both sides will fight over. I remember saying that I was charged an additional fee as an adult for getting a kid's meal at Chef de France. People said no way no how that doesn't happen. They wanted receipt for proof. It has been 6 years now and to me it was so common of a thing to do that I didn't bat an eye when they said oh we'll have to charge an "adult fee" for that. I never questioned it until I got here and people said I was wrong even though I had actually experienced it and know it happened. Sure maybe it isn't common and I just got a pissy CM but it happened.

Since people have shared that Disney allows sharing on Prix Fixe then the OP should be fine.
Nope, it didn't really. You clearly were talking about prix fixe in general. There is a local place that has a prix fixe for dinner on friday and saturday night and there is a $5 plate splitting charge. Some places even charge plate splitting charges just to share an entree (ran into that in a different place where it was explained that they charged the fee and split it in the kitchen and each plate ended up being a bit more than half and what we got was two enormous plates of food, which kind of defeated the purpose of sharing but oh well, my seafood risotto was actually good the next day ;) ). Everyone has different rules and Disney has their own... which tend to be more accommodating and family friendly than in other places. They can afford to, given how overpriced their stuff is to begin with I think... they charge to cover all of those possibilities and then can be super accommodating in spreading the magic and not telling people "no" very often.

I have seen more than one person mention the adult charge for ordering off a kid menu thing. I also have seen them being able to order the kid menu portion but without any included bonuses like drink or dessert. I don't doubt it happened, but I don't think it is very common.

Interestingly the literature makes it sound like signatures are charged per a person but table service is per a meal. The symantics of the sentences changes the meaning and I know people share at signatures all the time. The brochure says each meal will be charged one table service credit just let your server know how many credits you will be using however signature says each person will be charged 2 TS credits. I'm sure it is just one of those things Disney didn't think would get dissected online by fans.

We shared meals at Signature dining on DxDP this Jan. No problem at all. My daughter loves Apps, and we can’t eat 3 app, 3 entree, 3 dessert with the 3 of us, so we split 2 of each.

Since we were only using two tickets at most meals, we ate a lot of Signatures to use up the tickets.

Years ago, probably 2010, DH and I shared the Prix fixe meal at chefs de France. We just wanted a light lunch. We shared and our kids each ordered off the kids menu. No one batted an eye, and it never even dawned on me that it might be frowned upon. Its not any different than if we had ordered one app, one entrée, and one dessert to share a lighter lunch.

I was looking at Coral Reef and Chefs of France. I have a 13 y.o. DD that eats very little and kids meal would not appeal to her

My daughter is the same age and eats very little as well. Sometimes by dinner, if she is really not hungry, she will just order a dessert (she is always hungry for ice cream! On vacation, I allow it), but she will have a pick at my or DHs meal. At most TS restaurants, there is usually an appetizer plate/saucer something on the table we use to put a little food for her. We never bother to even discuss it with waitstaff because it is really just a little....not splitting a meal.

So question...i have ordered off kids menu at 50's Prime Time and lTT with no issues and no extra charges. Hoping to order kids meal at Bog but with the new system, will they let me?

Depends on if the "new" BoG dinner will be considered a *true* fixed price venue. If it is, then you may be able to order off the kids' menu, but you will be charged as an adult.

....and will we be able to share a prix fix meal at BOG? It hadn’t occurred to me, but it’s a good idea. When my daughter and I were on the dxDDP last summer, we shared a meal credit from time to time. One ap, one entree and dessert was more than enough. This would make BOG a better fit for us. I can’t eat a three course meal.

I just noticed this thread is a year old. I find this board so helpful with planning our vacations to Disney. It's kind of entertaining as well when I see threads like this that are so off topic. The OP was planning to pay OOP anyways, but it turned into this big discussion about what's allowed on the DDP.

That is SO strange. It says I was the one who bumped it, but I didn’t.

When I posted, there was a post before mine that was more recent. It was on the front page for me.

That's so weird. I wonder how that happened.... I know I read a couple pages of posts before I realized it was a year old. LOL!

My reply came out kind of funky ... my keyboard!

That happens sometimes - if the post that bumped it was obviously spam, it gets removed but the thread still pops up on the front page.

Plenty of restaurants have a priced fix option along with a regular menu. Never an issue with sharing. Now if there is ONLY a priced fixed menu? I have no idea :)
