I was reading the threads and came across a question re; whether one is charged for a priority seating. I made a reservation for the Hoop De Doo and I realize this was a pay in advance deal. But I also made PS's at 50's Prime Time, Chef Mickey, and the Garden Grill. If I was charged a PS fee wouldn't I be told this at the time I made the PS? Are PS fees applied to your bill after the meal? I thought I could cancle without penalty. To be honest I made the PS's so if the food lines are long we would have a place to go but if it is 30 min prior and because of long wait lines for attractions our family is on the oppisite side of the park I thought we could skip it. My ultimate goal is to try my hardest to eat at all my PS picks but I want to be realistic. Please let me know the scoop. Thanks

Kate i think there is a cancelation fee for all dinner shows. I think you have to cancel by at least 48 hours prior to your show in order to get full payment back. My suggestion is that if you booked the show, I would make sure that everybody in your party knows to be at the show on time.

Scott, is a PS at a restaurant like 50's Prime Time, Garden Grill, Chef Mickey considered a show? I realize these are character meals so maybe they are. I am suprised that the person on the phone taking my PS never mentioned a fee if we don't make it on time. I never gave a visa # etc... but I did have to tell them were we are staying. Thanks for you quick response.

Kate, there is a cancellation fee for dinner shows (Hoop de Doo, Luau, etc.) but not for most restaurants. I know that the exception to this is Cinderellas Royal Table, which now requires a credit card. Basically, if you don't reserve a PS with a credit card, you won't be charged if you don't show up.

Unless they've changed the policy, there are only a few PS that require a credit card deposit or charge a PS fee. I know one is Cinderella's Royal Table, and I think you can still cancel up to a certain time before you arrive without penalty, it's just to prevent people from making PS at the popular ones then just skipping them rather than cancelling. Unless this has changed, I've not heard of fees for any of the other places you've mentioned, just the Hoop De Doo

Thank you I am relieved! I started to panic a bit. I am so excited about the trip but even though I have been there as a child and twice as an adult I never have gone with my own kids . I want everything to be just right, although I am relistic and I don't want getting to a PS to become a stressful event.

The Ice Cream Social at the Garden Grill. I dunno if you were eating at that or as a full meal, but they do charge you for not showing up. They charge $10 per person. I don't think they do for the full meal, just the Ice Cream Social.

Hope this Helps!

For most PSes you can choose to keep them or not, although the restaurant will appreciate receiving the courtesy of cancelling if at all possible. In addition to the above exceptions to the rule, in some cases you may be charged at holiday seasons. We were asked to give credit cards for our PSes on NYE and NY day last year. I think I remember that we would have paid a $10 no show fee, but I'm pretty hazy about that since we showed up for all of ours. I'm assuming that the same thing applies on Christmas Day and other busy times, but you should always be told very clearly by the CM when you're making the PS, and will be asked for your credit card at that time.

The Princess Character meal (the one in Norway at Epcot) also requires a Credit Card and will charge if you don't show up. The person I booked with was very explicit about this.

I was also told special days, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day meals would require a ps with a credit card...does anyone know if this information is accurate?

We made HDDR ressies for next yr and were told we will have to pay the WHOLE THING 30 days prior. Reason: We are a large party. For HDDR, "large party" is defined as 8 people or more (we will have 9). For most any other ressie, "large party" is defined as 13 or more.

You pay a small deposit on your cc for CRT. You give your CC # to "hold" for most any other show (like HDDR, Mickey's BYBBQ). But other than that, if you can't make a ressie, it's no cost to you. HOWEVER -- just as a point of courtesy, when we realize we aren't going to make a ressie, I usually call the WDW Dine # (there are places in the park to do this). I like to imagine that some poor walk-in soul gets the benefit of my cancellation! :)

CRT required a credit card hold for dinner on Mother's Day. I forget what the no show charge was. $10? They did not charge the card upfront, just if you don't show up. Breakfast they charge upfront.

If you have ps's on holidays...they charge you like a $10 deposit/fee if you don't show up...per person.

If you are going to make ps's, I would plan on showing up!

A note to all DISers:
As one who is currently not able to get reservations at any of our desired restaurants, PLEASE be courteous and cancel your PS if you don't plan to use it! Don't double book! I think WDW makes it too easy for folks to make reservations all over the place and then just skip out on the meals they're not in the mood for.

Everyone continues to talk about the CC deposit for CRT. Please correct me if I am wrong, but that is only for the character breakfast. We just made dinner PS there, and nobody asked for a deposit.

Is this the way everyone else understands it to be?

Yes, the CC deposit at CRT is only for the breakfast.

Here's a link to the PS Planning Guide Website that explains all about the credit card policy and when (& where) a credit card is required to hold a PS:
