prioritizing the wrong points for reservation

I have a 24 point reservation, and I have 4 OTU points leftover (that I already purchased) that I would like to be used in this reservation.

When I modify and go through all the screens, it looks like it is going to let me do it, I select to "use 1st" those 4 points, then on the next screen it shows it is going to pull 4 from that contract, and 20 from my regular points.

But it doesn't actually do that! On the confirmation page, "Congratulations! Your modifications are confirmed" it says it took only 1 OTU point and 3 are remaining. It took 23 from my original points.

I called member services to see if they could fix it, but they couldn't either. They said it should pull the OTU points first even if I didn't indicate to do so, because they are the first in the pecking order of how points get pulled. So she couldn't figure out why it wasn't using all 4 OTU points. She said my other 23 points are banked/borrowed, so I shouldn't care since they expire the same time. But I do care, because I could transfer the banked/borrowed points. I cannot transfer the OTU points.

Anyone know how to fix?

You should ask member services to escalate this to a supervisor or something so they can get it fixed. They're the only ones who can.

I had the same issue with transferred points instead of OTUP that were not being pulled first.

Sandisw was able to explain why it was pulling points in that order.

MS would not fix it for me. The only way I could get the points I wanted was to tie up the points I did not want used in a dummy reservation.

So say you have 50 of your own banked points and 4 OTUP points. Make a dummy reservation for 30 points with your banked points. You will only have 20 points left. Then make your real reservation for 24 points. It will pull your 20 banked points and 4 OTUP. Then cancel the dummy reservation. Luckily, I was able to get the math to work.

What was the response when you said you care because the banked/borrowed are transferrable? If it’s a system issue, have them raise an IT ticket.

I tried to do this, but it seems like I would have to cancel my current reservation in order to free up the points I want used in the dummy reservation. The room is not available, so if I cancel it I'm worried I won't get it back.
