What can you tell me about the food? It sounds pretty good, but I'm a little unsure. And I'm not sure if it is buffet or not?

We ate at CRT on our last visit and enjoyed it, but we need a little less expensive dinner with the Princess' this time.

We are thinking of Liberty Tavern (wanted Chef Mickeys but can only get ADR for 9pm) and Princess storybook at Akerhus.

We do the Princess dinner here every year and we have loved it each time. The appetizers are buffet style ( and you could make a meal fromthat alone....)while the meal itself is served to your table with each person ordering individual entrees. Dh and I usually order two different meals and share.

Hope this helps......

We really enjoyed the food. We had three teens/tweens with us and it was one of everyone's favorite meals.

And if it matters: At Akreshus, the adults in the group can partake of an adult beverage if so desired-not possible at the MK restaurants.

We went there on my birthday this past trip and here is my review:
Pros:
1. Ambiance is nice, it does feel "castle-like".
2. Service was good
3. Princesses were very attentive to my boys
4. Desserts were VERY good.

Cons:
1. Food was NOT good...very bland
2. Felt rushed to finish meal

We loved Akershus when we dined here on our Disneymoon, it was a buffet, and I remember the food being very tasty. We were very dissapointed with this restaurant and will not be returning any time soon.

We did breakfast because my nieces are picky eaters and it was super good....cannot go wrong with breakfast fare

We ate there last year, and it was just okay. I have a cheese allergy and my choices were slim. Our table was near the buffet, so it was busy and noisy. We enjoyed breakfast there better.
The kids loved the Princesses!!

How do you say it? - Akreshus

Can someone help me? :upsidedow

It is pronounced as Ah-ker-shoes.

DH & I ate here on January 8th for dinner with no kids and we enjoyed it. Our ADR was for 4:50, but we happen to get there quite early...about 4:25 and we were seated well before the 4:50 time.

The appetizers were plentiful and included a Jaarlsburg cheese, muenster cheese, thinly sliced ham and turkey, smoked salmon, peppered mackrel, some kind of herring, basic lettuce salad, shrimp salad, pasta salad, beet salad, red cabbage salad, and some other items. Everyone gets this included in the meal.

You will receive a basket of rolls with butter that has cinnamon and sugar whipped into it. That butter was addictive! It reminded me of my granny baking.

Each person chooses an entree from the menu. There were about 6 options. DH had the venison with red cabbage and a bed of buttered egg noodles. I think it had mushrooms in the sauce. It was very tasty. I tried the traditional dish...can't spell it correctly so I'm not going to try, but it's a croquette of beef and pork with a brown gravy type sauce and a side of red cabbage and buttered potatoes. It reminded me of a salisbury steak. Although tasty it was on the dry side. The item that I was most impressed with the red cabbage. I don't like cooked cabbage, but this was great! It had a sweet and sour flavor and I actually ate most of it.

For dessert, it's served family style on one platter that has 3 different items; the rice pudding with strawberries, a "Disney-fied" cake as our server described it that was a light layered cake with mousse like thin layers between the cake and white chocolate shavings, and I can't recall the type of cheesecake because it was my least favorite.

We were on the dining plan so we also had a non-alcoholic beverage.

If you are interested in checking out the menu, just go to allearsnet.com. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner there including the children's menu.

As for character interaction, we thought it was good. When we arrived Ariel was in the lobby with a Disney photographer. DH had his photo taken since he is my Prince Eric it only made sense. lol We were able to purchase the photos later for $31 and change. We got 1 8X10 in a photo book...not the paper ones like we used to get at Chef Mickey's, and 3 or 4 4X6 prints. The night we were there, Jasmine, Alice, Pochantas, and she who is most difficult to find at Akershus...Cinderella. (The princesses do change depending on the time.) Each princess was gracious and wonderful to my big kid, who had the greatest time. We did notice another CM (kinda stalking the princesses) with a clipboard that had the dining room layout. As a princess visited a certain table the CM noted it on her clipboard and once each of them had visited us that CM came over and asked if we had been visited by each princess. So at least they were making sure that each table received a visit from each princess, which we thought was great.

Would we go again? Yes.
Do I think our DS, who is 15 enjoy eating here? Probably not.
Do I think younger kids would? Yes, even boys.
Do I think the kids would be happy eating from a kid's menu here? Yes, because they have the same standard kid's menu as the other dining locations and the appetizers had cheese, ham, turkey and salad, which most kids would be happy with.

I hope this helps!

This is the BEST food in Spcot and in the top 5 of Food in the World. Amazing! It is a foodie dream as long as you are willing to eat outside the box. If you are just a white bread, mac & cheese kind of person, don't bother. If you are into trying just about anything and being pleasantly surprised!

It is pronounced as Ah-ker-shoes.

I heard it was pronounced: "Akers" (rhymes with lockers) "hus" (Rhymes with loose) and that there should be no "sh" sound. But I've never been there to hear how the "locals" (CMs) say it.

We had lunch there back in October 2006 and loved it!

The princesses were great - they not only signed autographs and posed for photos, they also spent a little time chatting at each table.

It is pronounced Ah-kers-hooss with no "sh" sound! ;)

I am a picky eater, but between the buffet of appetisers and the main course choices, I managed to eat well just fine. :thumbsup2

Would I eat here again? Most definately! :goodvibes

This is how every CM I've heard say it pronounced it. A few have even corrected me when I had pronounced it the way I always thought it was, which is the way you say it. But who knows, unless it's one of the Norwegian CMs saying it I don't know if either way is right or wrong. Note to self...ask DS's grandma's friend who is from there...she'll know.

I don't remember the food but the buffet at the beginning was very good!

Wife loved the glowtinis :rotfl: Had to get one for each of the 3 kids :dance3:

Even my picky eater son loved the food!

We ate here for breakfast and I wasn't really impressed with the food. It was nothing special... I was hungry a little while later because I hadn't eaten that much. I was expecting pancakes or waffles but it was more basic than that. I did see pancakes on a few people's tables but I wasn't really sure how they got them since they weren't on the buffet line OR on the platters that were brought to the table. I would say definitely worth it if you have little ones that just MUST meet the princesses, but otherwise, find another breakfast buffet.

My boyfriend is Norwegian and was a server in the restaurant. I am living with him in Norway now.
You pronounce it as momsgoofy said. Ah ker shoes. Emphasis on the 'ah'. So 'AH kershoes. Lol. Okay. Just had to get that out there since it's a question I could actually answer! ;)

Is this really true? Has anybody had pancakes or waffles at the princess breakfast? If so, how or where did you get them??? Do you have to ask for a special request? Are they available for kids? Is there any type of self serve buffet line at breakfast or is it all brought to your table? Sorry for all the ??? but I was so excited and booked this without really looking into the menu, and my DH does not eat eggs, neither do my kids, so we will be in trouble! Please share your experiences, whoever has been there recently?! Thank you!
