Princess Storybook adding lunch and dinner

Starting on 4/10/05, they're going to offer dining with the Princesses at Akershus for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I am sure this is going to be a very popular change that will make a lot of people happy. I know that the princess characters are very popular and the meals are hard to come by. I think it was a wise financial decision for Disney to make.

But, personally, I'm disappointed to see it happen. Despite the fact that we have a seven year old daughter. Her princess-seeing needs are served by one or two breakfasts a year. Beyond that, she gets into "been there, done that" mode.

I'm disappointed to see it happen because we eat at Akershus at least a dozen times a year. So, not only does this change a relaxing meal into a character 'event", it also jacks up the price significantly and makes it a harder meal to come by from a PS-getting perspective.

Before the Princess Breakfast extendedd over and eliminated lunch late last year, an Akershus lunch for adults was $13.99. That goes up now by $10. And, the child's lunch goes from $5.99 to $12.99. So, lunch for the 3 of us will now cost nearly twice as much. So, we just don't do it as much. Not a big deal, I suppose.

My other concern is that "less than adventurous" diners may complain about the food selections, leading to more generic selections akin to what is served at every other character buffet on property. If this eventually leads to the loss of the Norwegian Koldtbort altogether. That would be a tragedy, as it is such a wonderful experience.

I think the Norwegian selections will be largely gone in six months. The article already says there will be American food for the kids. I predict that wiill be followed by American food for adults, which will gradually squeeze out the more unusual offerings.

I'll be curious to see how they do this. At that price, I would think dessert should be included. I'll also bet there will be a token one or two Norwegian desserts and the rest American.

I agree this was probably a good financial decision by Disney, but I hate to see it. Why couldn't they have opened up the Odyssey for a character meal instead? It isn't a castle, of course, but at least it wouldn't spoil an authentic World Showcase experience.

I have never eaten at Akershus, but feel disappointed for the fans. Now I will probably never eat there. I don't have problems with PSB because it is before WS opens. But other than that, I do not want to see the Princesses in WS. There are plenty of other places to see them.

I've been evaluating which Princess meals to take my lil princess and prince to this fall. I should be thrilled to add another option.

I'm not.

WS is for the different cultures to be exposed, valued, respected, etc. Its an opportunity to learn from the CM's from other countries and try new foods.

What do the Disney Princesses have to do with Norway? Nothing. Why not open a new place in the USA area then?

DH and I ate lunch there once and it was okay. It wasn't our favorite but that has nothing to do with it. It is a chance to experience culture, not more Disney marketing.

I am sure the menu will be "Americanized" very shortly.

I am boycotting this one! I'm sure that will make Disney rethink Oh well, I can try.

I have to agree with all of you who think this is bad news. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this posted. Akershus is the only sit-down restaurant in EPCOT that we eat at each trip and now they've gone and ruined it. Dh will definitely not be happy.

I'm actually quite pleased about this. I really prefer to do my character meals at dinner time rather than breakfast. I didn't care for the PSB breakfast very much (boring food and minimal character interaction) but I think a Norwegian dinner would be great. I do hope they keep the food Norwegian though.

I'm glad I finally tried this place in Dec. I really enjoyed it and was looking forward to taking my dd in Oct. I'm hoping the food selections don't change too much, we'd still go and it might be fun to see the princesses, but if the dinner selections change I think we'll pass on this one Part of the enjoyment was the relaxed atmosphere. Guess we have lots of time to see what happens with this one.

Yes, that's another reason why I dislike this. The characters at PSB are "hustled" through faster than at any other character meal we've been to. They get to the table and within 10 seconds ask "would you like to get a picture?" pose, snap, leave. It's so rushed, it's almost uncomfortable. Given that this is the same room, same number of diners and likely the same number of characters, I expect it will be the same experience at lunch and dinner. Further making this not worth the extra dollars.

That is a relief... there are just not enough Princess meals for all of the little princesses and their families.

Now, they need to work on a Heros character meal for the boys (and the moms)

I am pleased about this.
We did this breakfast in dec and I didn't care for the food. Plus we had to be there b4 the Ws opened. I would perfer a lunch or early dinner character meal. It would be a nice break. I think the character intervention was nice. My kids went as Jasmine and Aladdin and the princesses gave them alot of attention. I will def do this when we return in Oct,

The CP is the Candlelight Processional (Christmas show) package. You eat at an Epcot restaurant and then you are guaranteed a good seat for the show.

The other packages are dining packages that they purchase when they book their rooms...

The princesses have *nothing* to do with Norway or, for that matter, World Showcase.

Restaurant Akershus was one of my favorites that I tried on my first trip to WDW in December. I really enjoyed the restaurant and it's a shame it's only a character meal now, especially since I don't have children and don't really care for the princesses.
