Princess Hair?

When you dress your DD's up for the parks, how do you do their hair? Do you try and do Princess hair? Or just do it how you would any other day?

I left it up to them. Most days they wanted something simple, a pony or half-pony, I added a braid or two usually just to keep it a little neater looking (LONG days at the parks). The morning we did Cinderella my 7 year old wanted to wear her tiara, so I put her hair partially up so I could get the tiara to stay, I did that one other day she wanted to wear it too. With my 9 year old I did a braided headband...mostly to keep the hair out of her face all day and then put a sparkly headband behind it (it screamed tiara to me when I saw it in the store one day).

I always think cool hair bc it is usually hot when we got. Easiest has been partially pulled pony on top of their head to make a quick bun or something similar. Then I have those small metal crowns that disney sells in their hotel gift shops and pin it in front of the bun. More comfortable, holds better and cooler on hot days. Goes with any outfit and makes them feel special.

If you want to do the Disney bun look on YouTube for videos or search on the Dis for a thread with a few that were good.

I watched the YouTube ones to see how it's done. My niece had really long hair so I did the bun part but left some to hang down (it's also curly) and I had CM's and moms stopping us and asking about her hair. I had a few CM's say they don't usually leave any hair hanging down like that, but I love it like that. I also picked up a crown at one of the shops in DHS so it looked like it was done at BBB. I looked into the Mickey Head clip, but it costs about the same as a crown so we skipped buying one.

It varies. She usually has princess hair for 2 days of the trip because she does the makeover at the castle. Other days it's usually in one pony tail (2 when she was younger) or down. She says it isn't hot, but it looks hot.

Last trip she wanted princess hair after I'd washed the BBB updo out, so I put some of it up and left the rest hanging in the back and put her crown back in.

I think it depends on how you do her hair everyday. If you take time and do her hair everyday and she's used to sitting and patient as you do it go for princess hair. If you don't usually do anything or very much I'd keep it simple. The last thing you want is stress or frustration to start the day. And if you're not used to doing her hair it will take twice as long. If you aren't used to doing elaborate hairstyles and really want to do it I recommend practicing before you go to make it as quick and easy on everyone as possible.

My niece is a perfectionist when it comes to looking good. After doing her hair, she would go to the mirror and look at it. If it was crooked or a hair was out of place she'd let me know.

She's the one that wasn't impressed that I didn't have all the princess dresses for her when we went to see them. First off you don't know which 3 will be there and she wouldn't have time to change into the corresponding dress while waiting in line. But in her mind I should have the dresses with me and ready for her to change into. She even had plans for me to sew a dress bag that would attach to the stroller.

Thanks for all the ideas! I would have never thought to look on Youtube! We have started practicing. My DD doesn't always want to sit still to get her hair done, but she will sit longer if she is getting princess hair!

That's funny. Would she maybe like hairbows? Easier to change. They have some really cute ones on etsy. For one of our trips I found this really cute one with the exact 4 characters that are at Crystal Palace and my daughter wore it the day we ate there.

No she loved her princess hair I did with the crown. At first she didn't like that I left the curls hanging down (she had already seen a few other girls hair done the BBB way) but after people kept saying they loved her hair and did she go to BBB she started to love it. I just couldn't figure out how to get all her hair up without a huge bun. If she had straight hair I don't think it would look as good.

When DD was younger (2-5) I did all the cutesy pig tails with bows and all that. Now she isn't really a bow person.

We go in August when it's HOT. Nothing I do will have her hair hold up in that heat. She has hair to her butt. She is 8 now. She gets either a ponytail, pigtails, braids or a bun while in the WDW heat.

She does love BBB and she gets that done once a trip.
