I've read several good reviews of the dresses from mydressuptrunk.com. I'm thinking of buying one for my dd for our upcoming trip. But I need some advice about whether or not to get the slip they sell separately. Some DIS moms have said that these dresses are less full than some others so they bought the slip and that fixed the problem. Do you know if the models pictured on their website are wearing the slips or not? I'm trying to get a feel for what the dresses will look like without a slip. It seems to me that my dd would be most comfortable with the fewest layers possible, but I don't want the dress to look cheap and silly if it's too droopy, kwim? Also, while we're discussing these dresses...how do the sizes run? Big? Small? True to size? Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. princess:

I just ordered the belle one for my 2 yr old- it should be here soon. I will let you know how i think it falls!:goodvibes

I have 4 of them for dd (Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, and their Pink Princess). They are definitely ALL pictured using a fullness slip. Don't get me wrong, I *love* them (they're soft, no zips/velcro/etc, and seem very nicely made), but IMO they are very 'flat' w/o the fullness slip (they're only a single layer of soft/slippery gathered fabric). That said, the fullness slip is only a layer of gathered tulle, so I don't think it'd really 'add' that much (in terms of layers, it's a very 'light' layer).

As for sizing, I'm not sure what to tell you - they are true to their shoulder-to-floor measurements. I used those rather than just age, as my 4.5yo dd is quite tall. I got her the L as she won't be getting them until Christmas and the fullness slip will take up some of the length. Also, I prefer them to be a bit long (I can do something about that) rather than too short (can't stop her from growing!).

HTH a bit!

In the course of about a year and a half my daughter has gotten most of the dresses that My Dress Up Trunk offers. (She doesn't have Red Belle, white wedding or Erilka dress). She has never worn them with a slip. We do have a slip dress that she loves to wear by itself since it's great for twirling but I can't convince her 4-year-old mind that it goes UNDER the dresses!! princess: Anyway, they are definately less poufy without the slip but don't lay totally flat either. She actually wore Yellow Belle (no slip) to the movies last week (with Dorothy Ruby slippers, tiara and her Hannah Montana ponytail thingy) and looked fine. It was a sunny day and I didn't notice any "see-through" issues either. You might consider getting a slip if you are doing any sort of formal picture but let her go without afterward so she will be cooler. We got our slip at Dillards on clearance. MTD dresses are great! They wash great and are not itchy!! The mediums seem to run true to size. She is just now moving out of 4t sizes into little girl 5's. She is 38 pounds and 41 1/2 inches. All but one of the princess dresses are mediums (3-5 years) and the length is just at/above her ankle. The first dress she got was a small Rapunzel (1-3 years) and it seemed to run a bit large as she kept stepping on the hem when she wore it for Halloween at 2 years old. She still wears this one!! BUT, while it still fits her in the torso, her ankles and wrists are no longer covered. I hope this info helps.

Both of my dd's have the Cinderella dress. We do not have the slip. Here is what it looks like with no slip.....

I have to say that when I opened the package I thought the dresses looked incredibly cheap and I was annoyed that I had paid so much for them. I was out of time so I had to keep them. I thought they were cheap because they feel extremely thin, they reminded me of the generic play dresses you can you buy at discount stores. You could literally roll them up and put them in a large sandwich bag (which is nice for carrying them around the parks). Once I saw them on my dd's I was pleasantly surprised. The look really nice and I am sure they feel nice as well. Because they are so light they are flowy and that makes them look to cute :goodvibes I really like them. :thumbsup2 They are much nicer for the hot weather than the traditional dresses.

My oldest dd wore a 5 at the time and I think I bought her a large. My other dd was 12 months and I bought her the smallest size. Both were very long and I had to hem them up. The bodice fit really nice though. It was a bit stretchy so it fit them with nothing else on and it also fit over their sweat shirts.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks, ladies! All of you have been so helpful. It's good to hear that so many of you are pleased with the quality and fit. It's also nice to know that they fold up into a ziplock bag but still look nice on. #1 Pocahontas, thanks for the picture. Your dd looks really cute in that dress!

I think I'll order one or two and see how I like them without the slip. Then if I think she really needs a slip, I'll try to get one at a store here in town. I hadn't even considered buying any for our 15 month old until pp mentioned buying one for her little girl. I figured they would be way too big for babies, but now I will take a look at the measurements on that site. My little one is pretty small, but if the dress fits otherwise I could always get it hemmed.

Well, after reading your replies and looking at their website some more, I decided to go ahead and place my order! I bought the Snow White dress, SW cape, Cinderella dress, and the slip. The slip was only $11.99 and I doubt I could find one around here for much cheaper so I went ahead and ordered it, too. I chickened out on ordering any for my baby. After I looked at the measurements for the smallest one and compared them to her height, I was scared it would be way too huge for her all over--not just the length.

Here's a couple of neat things I discovered...
To my surprise, I got a 50% shipping discount when I went to check out. I have no idea why. I had no coupon codes or anything like that. The shipping was around $8.50 to begin with, so half off isn't a huge savings but it's something!
Also, in case any of you who are looking to buy from them don't know it--My Dress Up Trunk sells on ebay. They have a Create Your Own Set listed on ebay that's not on their website. You get to choose 4 princess dresses and one accessory for $74.99! I though that was a cool deal. One of the accessories was the SW cape and headband that sells on their site for around $12 I think. Also, the other cool thing about this Create Your Own set is that you can mix sizes. So if you have more than one girl to buy for you can order the different sizes you need. I thought that was awesome because on their regular website they only sell the packages with multiple dresses in the same size. Hope this helps someone out there looking for a nice deal on princess dresses.

Thanks to everyone who helped me!!

I am probably going to order the red Belle dress for my DD for her upcoming Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointment. I really want to order from mydressuptrunk but I am having such concerns about the sizing.

My soon to be 5 year old is 43 1/2" tall but only weighs about 34 lbs. I can not decide between the medium and large.

TwoRoos - would you mind posting your thoughts once you receive your order?

Girly Q - would you mind comparing your DD's height/weight to my DD. Is the large just too long or does it seem kind of big all over? My DD wears a 5T or girls 4 for length but they must be taken in at the waist.

Any and all insight about either the sizing or the red Belle dress is appreciated.

TwoRoos, I really didn't mean to hijack your thread but I seem to have too few posts to PM and hated to start a new thread so similar to your fabulous one!

I just got mine in the mail yesterday- OMG to the person who said it came in a flat envelope, you weren't kidding! I unfolded the dress and shook it out and it did look a little cheap at first. After hanging it- it did puff out a bit. Put it on dd and it looks adorable. It is so nice and lightweight for the parks. It doesn't have a huge amount of puff to it, so i would probably do the slip if I were doing photos or playing dress up, but to walk around the parks it will be more than fine. My dd is 2 and 38 iinches. At this point, I would need to hem the dress just a bit so she doesn't trip over it, if she wore her "belle heels" it would actally be okay but that isn't happening on vacacation! Hope that helps.

Pixie, as soon as my order arrives I'll be glad to tell you what I think about the sizing. It seems that I've read that the bodice is kind of stretchy to accomodate various sizes. So maybe you could get away with ordering according to length? I don't really know. You could probably call them and ask for the waist measurements. Have you measured from her shoulders down to where you want the dress to hit to see if the medium would be too short? And btw, I don't think you hijacked! The more people who post, the better info we gather about these dresses. So thanks!

Tinkandpan, I'm so glad you loved your dress. Now I'm even more excited about getting mine. And come on, what's wrong with "Belle heels" on vacation? ;)

ETA:
Pixie, did you see the post by Gracie's Mom? Her dd and yours seem to be close in weight and height and she has the medium for her little girl. Maybe that will help you decide?

I just wanted to give an update on my dresses for Pixie and anyone else who is interested. We got them in quickly and I love them!! They are so sweet and soft--very comfortable and not itchy at all. They are very flat in the package, but honestly I love them on. I ordered the size large (based on length) and I'll probably have to hem them a bit. But I think the medium would've been too tight and/or not give any growing room. With the large, I think dd can wear them for a while to come. I love that they just slip over the head and don't have buttons or velcro. The bodice is stretchy so they definitely accomodate various size girls. I would advise most people to order according to length. I hope this helps someone. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the update and I am so glad that you are happy with your order. I need to bite the bullet and order already! I think that I will go with the Large and hem up if I have to - better a little big than small. Thanks again!
