My daughter is two and we are flying to orlando in 17 days for her first trip to disney. She is set on wearing a princess dress on the flight. How much of a pain in the butt is this going to be? Should I just not mention it the morning we leave and put her in sweatpants and sweatshirt and get going?

It is short notice, but I've always thought it would be comfier for girls if you took a simple cotton dress and embellished it instead of wearing the nylon/poly ones.

Is she cool riding in car with dress on? My niece was fine doing this

I think it is cute! My 4 yo did this before. Just bring an xtra large zip loc bag with a change of clothes in case she changes her mind inflight. And the large bags are also an excellent way to pack those very poofy dresses. (DD usually brings 2-3 each trip.

How about a compromise. Why not go with pink velour suit or something with one of those soft frilly tutu bottoms and a little tiara. She will be comfortable and happy to be princess like. You won't have to stress out.

Geez, does she not have something in between that she could wear. Why is it either a "potato sack" or a "ball gown"? Doesn't she have some sort of cute outfit with either a princess on it? Also remember it is quite warm still in Florida so there is no need to be bundled up in a sweatsuit.

If she really wants to wear a princess dress for the flight, have her put it on after security. They always make you take off sweatshirts/coats to go through security...not sure if they'd do the same with a princess costume. If you don't want her to wear it on the plane, just tell her that it's the airport rules...she can't put it on until...whenever you want her to wear it...Orlando airport...Disney?

My DD9 several years ago had a flying experience that has caused us to look closely at her clothing. She was four and wearing a Princess Belle dress. This dress set off the metal detector at ATL. The TSA lady decided that she was to have further scrutiny. Translation: Strip Search. The problem came in when she decided that since I was male, I could not go back into the area with her.

That wasn't happening. Two supervisors stated the same thing. Lucky for me the airport manager was walking through on a tour. He asked a simple question of the TSA supervisor... "Are there any women behind the screen?" When the agent said there weren't he asked why I could go back with her.

Now we don't fly wearing anything with that much glitter or shiny threads sewn into the material. You wouldn't think these little things wouldn't set off a metal detector but they can.
