Hi,

My DD4 has some sensory issues. She can not stand different types of fabrics touching her (especially around her stomach). Typical Disney Princess costumes are way to itchy for her and we are going down to WDW for MNNSHP in October and she really wants to be Cinderella. Does anyone know of any costumes that might work for us?

Thank you so much for your help.

Oh my!!!! I went thru this with my DD at that age. Ugh!!! Anyway, I ended up getting a cotton nightgown and letting her wear that. It looked just like a gown. I'll see if I can find it on the disney website and post the link. I don't envy you but that worked out great! ;)

Found it. They have a bunch of princess ones. Best part...they are so much cheaper than the dresses!

Thank you so much! That looks like it would be perfect and very comfy. Did your DD wear leggings underneath it or just wear it "as is"? My DD will wear pants/leggings as long as they are on the loose side and have elastic around the waist (not so big that they fall down though).

Thank you again for taking the time to put the link in for me.

I make all my dd's(sensory issues) costumes in cotton. Do you sew?

You are so very welcome. Glad I could help. She just wore it as is. It was so incredibly soft and comfy. I was actually quite jealous! I know all about leggings. It is the only pants my DD will wear. We have 6 pair in black alone. They have that nightgown for each princess. They are wonderful.

CCGirl you just came up with a great Disney outfit for my girls. They love soft and hate the rough fabric. Before power chairs they had raw skin from Halloween costumes.Thank you!

I am pretty sure there is a picture in my siggie of Lauren - in a Tink costume...

Not sure if you can tell there, but we had to put a cotton tank top under her dress because it was really itchy!!

But that worked really well for us - no issues after we put that on under it.

Here is a picture of Lauren (in the wheelchair - you can see her tank top pretty well here) and there is a picture of another child in a Tink costume behind her that is wearing a shirt under hers, too. I distorted their faces because I don't know those two children.

I don't sew much but I was actually considering trying to learn. I can do super easy stuff like hems and curtains but I have never done anything with a pattern.

Please feel free to join us on the Disboutique thread (In the families area). We have many first time sewers. Lots of people started out on that thread not sewing, and now have Etsy shops and sew for the GKTW families.:thumbsup2

You are welcome! Glad I could help. I actually thought this was really a gown when I first bought it and realized it was a nightgown after. OOPS! Still looks adorable and the most important part is my DD loved it!

I sew but I have to say those night gowns are adorable. I think you should go with one of them. Good luck!

A word of caution on the nightgowns. Most use polyester and nylon (including the one shown) which can be itchy (inside and out). Also the "sheer overlay" style tends to melt a little in the dryer causing roughness/itchy to the touch.

And poly/nylon is not comfortable in Florida heat.

My DD had it. There is a little slip on the inside. It is extremely soft...else she wouldn't wear it. She only wears "comfy cozy" clothes as she would say. She had it for a couple of years until she outgrew it and it was washed inside out and dried in the dryer many times. All was well.

Clearly what works for one doesn't work for everyone. My dd has had several Disney nightgowns over the years. Each one was itchy. (Polyester is just not "soft". Some of the fabric used in the nightgowns is similar to the fabrics used in the costumes). If it worked for you wonderful. Living in Florida, cotton is all DD will wear.

I will certainly check it out. Thank you.

I ordered one of the dresses. We are not going until October, so that gives us plenty of time to try it out and see how she does in it. The price is very reasonable so even if it does bother her I can always try something else.

Than you again everyone for all the suggestions.

Have a great evening.

I have made quite a few Halloween costumes over the years for my DDs - one in a wheelchair.
My favorite was her costume from this October - a fairy costume made from an apron pattern. It worked well in a wheelchair because there was nothing ‘pokey’ for her to sit on. It was also very easy to get on and off since I could put it on when she was already in her wheelchair when I put it on.

Sue, that is really great idea and the girls say really cool looking. They are up tonight because we have a bug passing through the family.
They know I shop year round and if I am going to sew somthing I start months in advance(I do not have my Moms sewing skills and she does not feel like sewing as often as she did when she was younger)

I have my Mom's old sewing machine that I use and a Brother embrodery machine that I got open box that I still need to learn to use.My sewing space is in the RV so not the biggest space.

dntd I remember going to Marks and spencer as a kid. The dresses from there look cool.

I ordered night gowns from the Disney store along with some cotton pj pals(that way they have soft cotton to wear should they not want to wear the gowns)

Yep, I'm one of those parents that would rather the kids be comfortable.

I LOVE My Dress Up Trunk costumes...they have a shop and also sell on eBay, just google them. The costumes are SO soft and NOT itchy...Both of my daughters have Sensory Issues (My Oldest has the most problems) and even she wore costumes from there...she will NOT wear anything with problem seams, scratchy etc....

That reminds me, I need to list some on eBay they have outgrown so I can buy them more. :lmao::rotfl2:
