yes i know we had already brought up the topic eons ago, but i wasnt feeling up to digging through pages and pages of threads.

so the movie is coming out this year, right in time for disney to join in the obama celebration. now dont get me wrong here, i voted for obama and i think hes going to do good things for our country.

and i am totally excited over the movie.i love the idea of disney going back to 2d animation and the previews for it are so pretty.

but i think this giant argument thats been floating around the web is getting rather old and rather annoying.

everything these days has been about race. raceraceracerace.frankly, its getting a tad bit over done, dont you think?

and they are making no exception with the movie. i mean, the darn thing was in production since 2006 and disney has had to change it countless times because someone had to complain about anything and everything such as:

-her previous name (maddy) being too common and slave-related. ...okay what? last time i knew maddy was short for madeline. and theres nothing wrong with a common name. whats next, disneys going to name a character 'ashley' and everyones going to have a hissy over that too? and thank you very much, i think naming her tiana just fell into the sterotypical pile, as well.

-her appearance. disney was giving her full lips and well..a rounder bottom. not to sound RaCiSt but arent those general characteristcs of black females? and why is it so wrong to look like that? shes supposed to be black. jasmine is arabian and frankly her nose and eyebrows and the shape of her eyes reflect what country she is supposed to be from. why is having full lips that big of a problem?

-her job. disney wanted to make her a chamber maid. in a house, serving oh golly gee whiz: white people. something that a young black female in 1920's new orleans would probably be doing. wow, go disney for being accuarte. wow, go world for being ignorant as usual.

i just dont understand why we are always trying to cover up the boo-boos and the uh-ohs of our history. we cant change it, we lived through it, and frankly we've gotten a lot further than we wouldve ever been believing a century ago. the past is the past. its over, but its real. we should emrbrace it and learn from it and although it may be painful at points, it should only make us stronger and help us to find pride in who we are from what we came from. it shouldnt be about races and offending certain groups. its getting old.

and i think what ticks me off the rictor scale the most is the way everyone is just yelling "its about time! do you know how many white girls disney already has as princesses~!" the last time i checked, oh planet earth, the little girls that adore said princesses and love to dress up as them at the disney parks and practically idolize the movies they are in; really couldnt give a flying crap about the color of their skin. a princess is a princess. and once again, by making the skin colors of the said princesses the way they are is...historically accurate.

children dont see race. adults do. and thats whos complaining, thats whos taking offense at every stinkin thing disney is doing with this movie.

so what are ya'alls thoughts on this? sorry to rant and rave but i saw something on it tonight that nearly had me exploding. :<

and im not lookin for a fight, guys. its just a thought and i wanted to know if anyone was sorta feeling the same way. so lets...keep it friendly?

It's because people can't handle it! We all know what happened in the past. Why not try to educate people about what was wrong about it so that people can see why these things are no longer in practice. It's a Disney movie! Cinderella was clearly being treated poorly. People didn't need that situation to look better than it really was.

Honestly, with some people you just can't win. If you get stereotypical you get slammed and if you make something more idk "unstereotypical" you get slammed. Those type of people just want something (ANYTHING) to complain about.

Why does EVERYTHING in this country have to be sugar coated to appease the few that get offended? I feel like I can't say the word "black" in lieu of African American in class or I'll offend that someone who is looking to be offended. I don't care if someone calls me white instead of caucasian. In fact, no one has ever called me caucasian unless I was filling out some type of form.

*ggggggaaaaaaaasssssppppppp*

ETA: upon further inspection, I'm a little pissed that the white ones are unfocused and BEHIND the blackies. What is that saying about MY race? We're not GOOD enough for their black world?

I have SO much to say about this, but I will probably get flamed for being offensive. So I think I'll keep my mouth shut unless somebody says something that really irritates. Me. But I will say that I totally agree with you.

All I have to say is that I TOTALLY agree with EVERYTHING you've said.
I do NOT understand why it's such a huge deal!!
We have Pocahontas, Jasmine, Mulan....and there was not such a big deal about them if I can recall. My little asian friends didn't jump for joy that they could FINALLY wear a princess costume, NO, when we played Disney Princesses with my friends, it didn't matter what colour your skin was, my asian friend was always cinderella, my indian friend was snow white, i was jasmine...KIDS DONT CARE ABOUT RACE.
It's the PC obsessed parents that do.
I hate that this movie is only getting so much hype because of that.

I agree with everything you said.

It just goes to show that America is still a racist country, no matter what any one says.

ahh i feel so much better that you guys agree with me. :3

on another note, i really am excited to see it. though i will admit that all this crap surrounding it is making it hard to get too excited for it. :/

I'm so excited for the princess because she's gorgeous.

I still don't see what was wrong with Maddy, of course. Tiana's cool too though. I've been eagerly looking at the concept art, because really the new princess and her cool 1920's New Orleans outfits are amaaazzing.
