From USA Today.

Princess Cruises and Holland America requiring masks for Alaska voyages amid COVID uptick. Two major cruise lines are requiring masks on select Alaska trips amid an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state. Princess Cruises and Holland America Line both brought back the mandate for some sailings in the region.

I'm not surprised. It seems like a lot of folks are getting Covid-19 on Disney cruises since the masks and PCR testing went away and other cruise lines are probably seeing the same thing.

Where did you see that?

Princess and Holland are both owned by Carnival and it seems it is for one particular route between Whittier and Vancouver.

The reason it is that route is that cases are very high on the ship that sail those routes at the moment. Several guests also mentioned that since these were one-way sailings, there were large numbers of people sailing back to back (several hundred). When that happens it prolongues the outbreak because guests who are infected but don’t get tested (Princess had dropped its requirements to tes between B2B legs) are staying around and infecting a new wave of guests, some of whom stay for the next cruise etc.

Interesting. Makes sense

This issue is a spike in Alaska itself. DIS board rules prohibit quoting statistics, but if you Google Alaska covid you will see an alarming spike in the past 7 days.

Except Princess has other ships that go to Alaska (roundtrip from Seattle or Vancouver) with no mask reinstatement.

Correct, but those ships don't go to the cities that are impacted.
