Hi, I am considering myself a old, newbie.

I came to this site when planning my first visit to WDW 3 years ago.

When we went in 2004 (me, DH, DS6, DS18mth, DS18mth) we paid about $1600 for 7 nights, (2) interconnecting rooms at POP with the length of stay passes.

I called for the same set up (I know the tickets are MYW now) but the price is now $3000!!

What is this about?

I realize I know have to pay for tickets for the now 4 year olds (whereas before they were free), but 2 childs tickets double the price???

What gives?!?:sad2:

When are you going? The room rates vary by season. They also added a new "summer" season for 2007, and I believe it was another $10 a night.

Does your quote include a preferred room, or a standard room? The preferred is also $10 more a night. Were the tickets base tickets, base plus park hopper, or base plus water parks and more? There is a difference in all the ticket prices.

That's about all I can think of for now.

For seven days, two child tickets would be .... around $600 or so? So, that's $2200 of your $3000. You figure room rates go up $10/year so that's $560 more for your two rooms at POP; now you're at $2760. Maybe the other $250is the higher season and/or the view like the PP said... or you have hoppers on these tickets and didn't in 2004.

I wish Disney wasn't $3K everytime we go... but for our family of 5, like you, it is that much. It stinks! I like $1600 better too!

Did the cost include dining for everyone? The cost is $38.99 per adult (age 10+) per night and $10.99 per night per child (age 3-9). That would account for $776.65 of the total if the quote included dining.

Did you also get the 7 nights for the cost of 4 or 5? Wasn't that a couple of years ago? There were also some Visa discounts for new cardholders about that time also. Are you a Visa cardholder? There were also more general public code discounts at that time.

Yes, we did get a Disney Visa card offer and sign up (I think you got 6mths interest free for your vacation too)

So, is that why it was so much cheaper?

I did ask for the MYW with park/waterpark hopper option. No dining options though.

Hmmm, I guess the prices aren't that out of line.

When you are a 2nd timer like me, it just seems like the price has jumped dramatically.

thanks for the info, I will be visiting the DIS boards daily again to gear up for this trip.

2 children's tickets you didnt pay for in 2004 $400
Did you have water park access in 2004? this adds about 220
Over the last two years prices have gone up probably $10 per room so 20 per night so 140 for your trip
Tickets overall have increased but I cant figure comparison. They went up in 2005 and 2006. Basically I think the increase falls to paying extra for park hopper option adding adding something like another 200

These things all add up to an extra 960. That leaves you well short of your price difference but i'm sure there are other things like me not knowint the exact ticket prices for the kids and price increases as well as season differences. Even if you are going in the same time, If it is june, that is now a summer season rate making it another $10 per room per night higher.

I just went to look up ticket prices
2 childrens tickets 346+ tax = 368
add ph/wp = 170 + tax = 181

So for just adding the w kids you add 549.

I'm not actually finding info on 2004 ticket prices than I can use, but From what I saw the price difference isnt as significant as I thought.

I see what you mean about the 2 childrens tickets.

I also see what you mean about the "seasons" we did go in mid June in 2004, I could have sworn that was the "regular" season then, I also thought there were only 4 seasons? holiday, peak, regular, value. That's seems to have changed.

Ugh, I can see I am just going to have to get the best deal I possibly can, even though it is quite a bit more than the last time.

Its funny, I remeber telling my husband that we were saving money by taking the (now 4year olds) before we had to pay for them, I can see I was right.

One other thing to check, trip insurance. I know it is not that much, but I would definitely check to see if it was added on to your quote. Their default is to add it unless you specify otherwise. So see if it is on there, then decide if it is worth it to you. Hope you get a great deal!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summer season was added within the last two years.

Look into AAA, if you can get availability it will save you about 15% which will well more than pay for itself. That would be about $257 savings which should net about 200 after you pay for a aaa membership, has the added benefits of a special usually closer parking area (use diamond card), discount card (small discount at specific locations) and a special story time with a character (very limited admission so each child gets personal attention). Packages MUST be booked with aaa but room only can be booked aaa or disney. Not sure if you can get all the special benefits with a room only, but if you do book a room only you can get your tickets cheaper if you don't buy through disney, but you can get a discounted ticket price through aaa or undercover tourist (sign up for the mousesavers.com free newsletter to get a few more dollars off per ticket).
