Priceline When You Need Two Beds??

I've never bid on Priceline but am considering it for our short 3 night trip this week. We are going to Savannah, and I would love to stay in the Historic District but rates are just too high. I'm considering bidding using Priceline. I know the "rules" state it is for double occupancy only. Has anyone used Priceline with a group needing 2 beds and did you receive the room with 2 beds? What if they only have a king room and you have 4 people? So, if you have used Priceline in a situation like mine, what was your experience?

We have only ever gotten two beds with our Priceline wins, which is a lot! As soon as you win, call that hotel directly after a day or two, and put two beds on your request. I would still use Priceline and hope for the best, as chances are you will get two beds.

We used Priceline for a recent trip to St Petes beach and they did give us 2 beds when we checked in. However it was only us and our 5 year old DD so I figured if we had to we could ask for a cot if the room only had one bed.

Thanks. I am thinking more and more that I'll just take my chances. Besides, my bid may not be accepted anyway.

You can also try hotwire. They let you specify how many are in your party. I've had good luck using them and never had an issue in getting two beds.

Priceline will only guarantee that you get a room in the hotel. In the United States, the vast majority of hotel rooms have 2 beds, so your chances of being able to get a room with 2 beds is excellent. However, the hotel retains the right to put you in a room that is "left" after all the higher paying guests are assigned the rooms that meet their needs so there is always a risk.

Calling the hotel right after you get your reservation number is excellent advice. :)

I would also check what hotels seem to come up on bids (I use biddingfortravel.com). I would then check out the website for the hotels to make sure that those hotels that would be probable have rooms with acceptable bedding. I have used Priceline for years and have always been pleased with my results.

I would also try hotwire since the do guarantee enough beds for your party. I have many good experiences with priceline, but one time I did end up with a queen bed with 4 of us.

Thanks so much for the advice. I have checked all the hotel websites and they have rooms available with 2 beds. I think I'll give it a shot and see what happens. It's only 3 nights, so I think we'll be okay.

Be VERY VERY VERY careful with bidding on the rooms with more then two people. When we were going to Hawaii I bid on a room in Honolulu (for three adults and one infant) we got charged like $600 MORE because we were over the double occupancy...let me tell you we were SHOCKED and not happy because bring charged that on top of our bid put the price of the room OVER what we would have paid for rack rate!!

Dang! We've never had a problem! It is always 2 adults and a 15 year old who looks like an adult. I always just call and verify it is a non-smoking, 2 bed room.

I think you'll be fine in Savannah. Some of the larger more crowded cities like NY or DC I wouldn't chance it.

Never, ever, ever chance it in NY. DC is usually OK. Savannah should not be a problem at all.

Oh yeah we were NOT happy...we had my DH, my mom, myself and then our 18 month old DD. It was quite a surprise, but when we asked about the charge they showed us the terms that clearly stated DOUBLE OCCUPANCY and then who are we to raise a stink. It was something that I never payed attention to because we had only used it before when it was just my DH and myself in Orlando.

I only had a problem one time and it was a Fairfield Inn in Bloomington IL.

The desk clerk was just being a jerk though, the hotel parking lot was empty empty empty - he told me my rate was "ridiculous."

Well, my bid wasn't accepted anyway. So, I'll just use hotwire and try something else. Like I said, it wasn't a planned trip so I really don't want to blow the bank on this one. We'll be fine somewhere in midtown and just drive in to the Historic District. Thanks for all the advice, though!

Keep trying if you have a couple days. I always try and do it 2-3 weeks out so I can bump my price up by $5 a day (start at $40) when we go to California.

You can rebid again right away if you change your star level or location within the city.

I've used both Priceline and Hotwire. I can get better prices on priceline, but if I really want to make sure we get two beds, I use hotwire. I only worry about this if we are in a hot area for tourism that is popular with families because they book up all of the 2 double or 2 queen bedrooms. Where you are going should not be a problem at all.

One time I booked a room through priceline for just my DD and me for one night when we left a day early for a trip. The room we got was at an extended stay Mariott place with a kitchen and living room area, but it only had one bed. My DD had a nasty cold so I didn't want to sleep with her. I went back to the front desk asked for a room with two beds and they moved us without any problem.

Oh, if you do use hotwire, I think there's a rebate coupon in the Entertainment Book!

We have used priceline many times and always given a room with two beds. We always make sure to ask when we check into a hotel. It is me, DH, 9 dd, and 7 ds. We figure if something happens we only get one bed then we can ask for a rollaway for one of the kids can make a makeshift bed on the floor.

There are some cities that I probably wouldn't chance this with. One city I've heard to watch out for is right in downtown New York City. I've heard alot of the rooms there are very small and usually only one bed.

I also may be leary of rooms in a historic district of some cities. I would bet they have quite a few rooms where their are only one bed in the rooms.

we have been given 1 bed rooms before but luckly they had a sofa bed so it wasn't a problem. We did learn to always travel with sleeping bags for the kids when we use priceline!
