I just wanted to let yall know that I was able to use Priceline's Name Your Own Price for Royal Pacific. I also used their SUMMER 5% discount code and booked it for a total of $190 a night. It was a $40 savings per night. I was going to go the APH route but when we changed our plans to only stay 2 nights, the savings just wasn't there any more. Using UTC tickets and Priceline, I was able to save a total of $70.00 over APH & AP/Tix. I tried talking my DH into the AP's but he wasn't biting, he said we should at least visit first before purchasing APs. This will be our first trip to the Dark Side.

I'm tempted to try this myself, but I'm SO afraid we'd somehow end up with an offsite hotel. We're currently booked at RPR the third week of August, and while I'd love to save some money, I'd be devastated to try this and end up at an offsite property (and no express passes).

May I ask how you knew it was RPR? I'd love to get that rate!! I can't find any discounts for the night we want to stay (September 5).

lol, I did exactly the same thing.

We're staying at RPR August 19-23 and are taking advantage of the stay more/save more promotion. I'm assuming the AP rates wouldn't be much better than that. I think the rate we got was $187 per night. It would go down to $175 if we stayed an extra night, but we're going to stay at a cheapie motel on the way out of town that last night.

Don't forget - if you love Universal and want to return within the next year, you could upgrade to APs before you leave and then you would just pay the difference between the price of the passes you have and the AP price.

APH rate is $154 for your dates.

to check AP rates, just go here and enter APH into the code field. If it shows an AP rate that means there's an AP rate for your dates at that time. IF there's no AP rate for those dates at that time, it won't show AP rates. always check without the AP rate, though, just in case the Stay More Save More rate is better. (it *can* happen).

I checked the 4 star hotels in the same "area" for universal & only RPR & HRH are the hotels listed. I then checked the other "areas" to make sure they did not have 4 star hotels & used them to keep bidding. U just need to be sure u don't include an area that has 4 star hotels & only bid on a 4 star. But I would do the math to be sure the aph discount isn't better & of course to know how high u can go & it still be a deal. Oh & don't forget the summer discount code for 5% off.

Thanks, guys! We're now considering doing the Flex Pass, so the AP is out. Now I'm on to looking for a hotel for the second leg of our stay when we hit Sea World and Aquatica!

Sorry, but where are the hotels listed? I know from Priceline experience that they don't tell you the hotel before you win. They're not listed on the BetterBidding.com Priceline hotel list and HotelDealsRevealed.com only has the Crowne Plaza listed as a 4-star hotel.

That's why I was hesitant to go the bidding route as I didn't want to end up in the CP hotel for RPR money.

I have been using priceline for about 6 vacation stays and it has worked out for me BUT i am not a priceline expert. What I do is first do the search thru their regular hotel search and NOT the bid your own price section. On the regular search where they do list the hotels, star ratings and neighborhood sections. I then find the hotel i want and see what other hotels are in the same neighborhood and star level. If there are other hotels with the same star level in the same neighborhood it is a NO GO because I can not for certain get the one I want. But in the case of the Universal neighborhood the only two 4 star hotels are the RPR and HRH. So for either way I was good to go. Then i make all my notes so I know how i can strategize my bids and go bid thru name your own price..
