Price Problem @ HDDR--Anyone Else?

Hey there--

I made and paid for our Thanksgiving Day Dinner @ HDDR this past May. When my credit card bill came, I noticed a small discrepancy in price-- We have 11 adults @ $58.99 and 2 children @ $29.99 -- the total is $708.87, but my card was charged $721.83. The difference is small enough-- only $12.51, but here is the weird thing. When my TA, who agrees with me on the math, contacted Disney, she has received several answers, none of them making sense.

1) The tax increases proportionately with the number of guests and so the more diners, the more tax total. It's NOT a direct %. They said it is a cumulative tax. (Say what??)

2) The "fan sites" have the tax rate wrong. (Really? On WDW own official site is gives the price as $58.99/29.99 for 1st tier--Meal, Beverage, Tax and Gratuity included. Go to the WDW site and go to the official HDDR page. There is an asterisk next to the pricing and the details are shown below where the asterisk is explained. So the fan site problem is...?)

3) Another person said-- no that is the total when you add it up. (And the math classes they took to get there were??)

So here is the question--has anyone else gotten charged a different price than the simple math added up to?? $12.58 isn't going to break me, but the excuses we are getting from Disney are shameful! I'm forking over over $700 for a meal (I know...and a show-- we love it that is why I am willing to pay :thumbsup2 )for 13 people and you can't do the math right? So anyone else with math impaired CC charges? (I hope not) I feel now as if I need to check every item I am being charged for...

Thanks all!

I don't know for sure but you might be booked during one of the Holiday pricing periods that just started. Each guest is a couple of dollars more during these holiday periods. Just something to look at. HTH

Well, that IS a thought...but they haven't used that as the explanation yet. And it isn't listed as more expensive then. It seems to keep revolving around the taxes...

But I appreciate the smart thinking!

Holiday pricing.

It's actually 59.99 and 30.99 during this time. Those prices come out to the total you were charged.

The tax thing is pretty funny. The tax % doesn't change as the price increases. Why would they even think to tell you that? They should know the pricing is different during this time of year and be able to tell you that.

Allison,

I don't know how you know that-- I have looked everywhere-- but I appreciate the info. I know the meal is not Thanksgiving style, but regular HDDR, so I was pretty sure different pricing wasn't it. The tax thing blows me away. I couldn't even find any info on line (Google) on cumulative tax in Orlando, Kissimmee, anywhere...

Thanks.

I had already gotten the pricing from when I had called the reservation line. They told me what the "holiday pricing" cost would be.

I would say almost all of the family-style or buffet meals we are eating at have special pricing during the time we are there.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I am just surprised because of all the places that DO have a holiday menu-- I would espect the price to change. I am surprised though that no one we talked to could come up with this very understandable answer at WDW.

Thanks again, Allison.

A little OT, but the last time we did HDDR, I was able to book it over the phone, then pay for it at guest relations at the hotel. No more? Are you charged immediately now, or can you give them a CC, but not pay for it till you get there (would rather pay in cash). thanks.

1) Unfortunately, there is holiday pricing.
2) They have increased prices for
. . . weekend days for resort rooms
. . . holiday rates for certain dinners and dinner shows
3) Rumors are floating for new price increases/surcharges
. . . surcharge on bottled water during hot days
. . . surcharge on umbrellas on rainy days
. . . surcharge on mustard and ketchup, if ordered with burgers

Jillpie--

We are paying OOP and HDDR must be paid in full (ack, ack) at the time of reservation. If we did it DDP, we would have to give a CC to hold it. I was not ready for the pay in full when I reserved it in May, but I have since recovered. I like to consider my cousin's 1/2 of the HDDR cost to be one more deposit I have placed on our trip ;)

Rusty--

Have you been playing in my daughter's Roller Coaster Tycoon theme parks? She trys to change all the pricing of umbrellas at all "her stands" on rainy days. Maybe WDW is catching on. Holiday pricing for the holiday date, not the menu? Oh well, that would be why this is our 1-shot all-out big-buck trip and not one of many to WDW. (That and the fact that all the price variables they now have make it too da%* hard to figure out myself :teacher: )

As much as I do love Disney, our summer trips to Maine for a few grand/week and $1K long weekends here and there give us more bang for our buck and spread the vacation time all throughout the year.

ok, thanks for that info. Not likin it, but thanks.

OT but we are having Turkey day dinner there too! We are going to the late one, maybe we will see you there!!
