My SIL would like our families to spend a few days at the Nick Hotel. I went to the official website where they tell you about all the great activities, but the fail to give you any idea of what these things cost. From some of the reviews I've read, I get the impression that they nickel and dime you the whole stay.

So does anyone have a definitive price list for the place? (shows, meals, etc?)

I don't think anything comes with the $20 fee. They just charge it and you can't get out of it.

Hello,
Supposedly the $20 resort fee is for transfer back and forth from the assorted amusement parks in Orlando for hotel guests. At least that's what I was told by a CM from Nick Hotel when I made our hotel reservations. Most shows in the Nick Theatre and Pool Side are free. Arts and Crafts Activities and Character Meals are charged accordingly. If you need a list of prices I suggest calling Nick Hotel and asking or having them e-mailed to you. The number is 1-866-GO2-NICK (462-6425). You can also find information about certain activities at nickhotel.com under Nick Hotel Events. :hippie:

I just spent about an hour reading reviews from tripadvisor. (I googled Nick Hotel reviews and it was the second entry I believe.) It seems as if people either have a really good time - or really hate it! The overwhelming response is that everything is expensive - ie. sunscreen $13.95 (to be expected to some extent). I did read that the craft sessions (tye-dyed t-shirt) are between $15 and $30 (according to the poster). We are trying to surprise our DD with a one night stay prior to our Disney Vacation at a property we would not normally stay. We are right now choosing between Animal Kingdom Lodge and Nick Hotel (I know - what a disparity!) But two places she would LOVE to stay. After what I have read - I believe I will be spending the extra $100 to stay at AKL.

kids love SB and have seen it on TV, etc. It's $$$, just for room with tax and resort fee---but I figured for one night--why not, and it's not any moer than a 1 BR at disney.
We are not going to Disney next year for Spring Break, but have 2 days in O before we go on a 4 day cruise, so I thought we would go early/stay late at NickHotel. When you factor in no Disney tickets, etc. and that there is microwave and extra, separate room for kids, it's a decent "value".
Plus, if we hate it--it's only 1 night and they got to go--BUT my fear is they will love it and want to go back every year we are in O

The Nick website gives little to no information about the daily activities and absolutely no info about the pricing of these activities.

I have an AP, so cost of tickets is not an issue and I get great AP rates. Just booked POP for Sept at $64 a night.

I really need to know what makes this place a "decent value" before we book it.

I think the going rate is about $200 a night--more or less. For summer, on travelzoo.com, there was a $99 special july/aug for sun-thurs. and $149 fri-sat.
We are paying $234+$20+taxes for 1 night in March--but it's Easter week and we don't have AP, so we would have to use one of our days on a 10 day disney ticket which averages out to $30 a day, so 5X$30=$150 for 1 day at a Disney park. We have 5, so we would have to book at least POR, which would run $200 plus tax for the night during Easter.

At Nick, we get Nick theming, pool events, etc. all built into the rate--and we will not be doing character meals, or many extra $ things at Nick.

Plus, kids do Disney every year (and love it), but we thought Nick would be a big treat before the cruise---but I would not pay for more than 1 or 2 nights there at the prices above.

mrzrich,

Which is why I said call Nick Hotel and request a price list be e-mailed or snail mailed to you. Since some Nick Hotel activites vary by the month you may have to wait until they are posted on the monthly calendar. Also as the previous poster did, go to Trip Advisor and if you join I believe (again you may want to check because I am not sure)you can e-mail other members and ask them why they did or did not like it and ask them also about prices there.

As someone who has been there and will be going for the 3rd time in September (we are paying $155 per night) before beginning our WDW vacation what I can tell you is that we have always had a wonderful time and our kids loved it. Never had the mold or filth problems others have posted about (the only problem we had was being woken at 4am by the fire alarm because some a** decided to smoke in his room). Is it expensive ? Yes but no more so than comparable rooms or other activities at Disney that you pay for. Most of the shows in Nick Theatre are free but you do have to make reservations for them and like Disney the earlier you get there to make them the better. We did a few activities- hair ties and temp air brush tatoos and I found them comparable in price to what disney charges and for the most part same quality as Disney. But my kids were also happy just being in the pool and participating in the free activities and shows, and the free dive in movies. (they are by the pool so yes dive in lol)

So the only thing we really spent money on other than our room was food.
They have a mall type setting with eatieries like A&W and Pizza Hut, and I think they have a Subway as well as others that I really can't think of at the moment . They also have a buffet and the NickToons Cafe as well as snack bars at each pool . We ate at the buffet one night and the food was not bad, I mean it was'nt JIKO or anything but the food was good and at that time the kids ate free.

You will find the opinions for Nick Hotel are either people like it or hate it. Some people who stay won't like it because it's not Disney and that is the yardstick by which they judge everything so they were'nt going to like it in the 1st place no matter what. Some may have just had the bad luck to stay and have a bad expereince and would rather not take a chance again. Then there are those of us who have stayed and had a pleasant time and had no problems. The only way to judge something is to experience it for yourself. I agree I would not want to waste a lot of money just to see if something was worth it or not. So do your homework about the hotel.

Ask questions of people who stayed there, do your own research and make your decision based on that. Also if you have relatives or friends in Fl call and arrange for a tour of the Hotel including a room tour by them, and have them report back to you on what they find and whether or not they think you and your family would enjoy a stay. Contact the hotel manager or reservations manager as a potential hotel guest and ask questions about the resort and state concerns you may have and by all means let them know about consumer reviews you have read ,good and bad, ask about activities for the family and prices, ask about the dining and costs for that . Ask about discounts on rooms and activites. As a former reservations supervisor I can tell you that most hotels will be accomodating (sp) to potential guests in these matters and any who are'nt are most definitely not worth a second glance. In the end, again the only opinion that counts will be yours and your families. Hope this info helps . :thumbsup2

I just got back from a two-night stay at the Nick Hotel (followed by 3 nights at Universal's Royal Pacific Resort). I paid $199 for the two bedroom suite and found the best rate at travelzoo.com. If you plug in your dates on the Nick Hotel website you can compare room prices which are normally quoted w/out tax and the $20 resort fee. It is pricey but the separate bedrooms are nice and the fridge and sink come in handy - the rooms were clean and roomy. If you can check-in early and stay late the day of your departure one night is more than enough. My kids LOVED it and quite honestly with two pools and all the slides, fountains, etc. you really do not need to partake in all the extra activities which they charge for. Our only other expense other than the room was food - they have a nice food court where the prices are not too out of hand (comparatively speaking). We did the free family show (30 minutes) one night which was fun. Good luck and let me know if you have any add'l questions.

Just chiming in to say that Nick Hotel is a lot like Chuck E Cheese. Kids love it and parents, well......we put up with it for the kids. Of course it's over-priced, but right now it's the only Nick Hotel out there. In a few years with the addition of other Nick Hotels maybe the cost will be more in line with the amenities.

My kids watch Nick way more than Disney (me too), so there is no comparison to Disney (especially since we have never stayed onsite at Disney). I'm glad we went but can't see us returning, at least not to the Orlando location. Two nights is the max I would recommend. And your kids should love the water or you might find yourself shelling out extra money for the crafts.

We stayed at the Nick Hotel June 19-21, 2007. We loved it. I got a rate of $129 per night back in March. We didn't do any of the extra activites, bought a Nick Hotel postcard, and ate a few times in the food court. Yes the food is pricey, but convenient. The room was vey clean, the staff helpful and friendly. We would go there again.

we spent a couple of days and new years eve there this past december...and it was great..we didn't pay for the character breakfast because they walked around everywhere anyway...the dive-in movie...the daytime games,etc...were all free and all great..our kids loved it....i would stay there again in a heartbeat...

We love it too... as long as we can get in on a good rate! ;) We've stayed twice now since it's been Nick (and once back when it was Holiday Inn Family Suites) and had a great experience each time.

we pd for a $20/nt pool view and that great slide looked wonderful, but they closed it 3 out of the 4 days we were there, we complained but they didn't care we had to walk way across the hotel for 2 smaller slides and of course 100 kids waited for those slides, the pool was open but only 1 of the interactive sprayers worked, someone had a "accident" in the pool each 1 of the days and my son came down with a terrible illness, makes me wonder... i just have to say it's a nice one but it is just a Holiday Inn, if that's what your used to , that is all it is...we won't be back..

I just found out about this hotel through a friend YESTERDAY! :rotfl: Yeah, I know, get with the program....Anyway, we are at WDW for three nights and then going to Sea World. I thought we might check into staying at the Nick for Friday, October 19 for one night. My questions are: How far is the hotel from Sea World? Is there transportation from WDW to the Nick? Is there transportation from the Nick to Sea World and back? I've never used travelzoo before, where do I find out if there is codes/discounts? :confused3 The hotel looks like fun for DD5, especially the slides! I figure we can go to Sea World then come and lay at the pool until check out in the AM....Thanks for any questions you can answer...:surfweb:

We stayed ONE NIGHT at the Nick hotel just 2 weeks ago.

We will NEVER go back. NEVER EVER.

We were in the Spongebob Suite which is a hotel room with Spongebob's image painted on the wall. There is a separate cubby with bunk beds for SMALL children. I have a 9DD and a 13DD. The 13DD could not fit on the bed. She managed, for the one night, because she had no choice. There was an awful stale milk smell in the room.

I have a 16DS who was going to have to sleep on the pull out sofa for the one night. Without tellling me or even mentioning it, he went out to the van and brought in every beach towel/blanket we had brought and covered up the mattress with them. THen he helped his sisters do the same. NOw, when your kids won't sleep on the bedding, there's a problem.

It was AWFUL.

Because the pool area is surrounded by the hotel itself, it is very "smelly" That's the only say I can describe it. No fresh breeze blows through to dissipate the chlorine/crowd smells.

DD9 really wanted to slide. Just once. So DH got up the next morning and took her down to the pool area. We were told the area opens at 9am. So she stood in line at the bottom of the slide for well over 20 minutes for her turn. All the while 2 teenage boys were having a go at the slides. They said they were testing. Now, maybe they had won a raffle or something. It seemed very unfair to make these smaller children wait while the 2 boys played. There were only about 12 children at first but the line quickly grew. She FINALLY had her turn, wasn't that impressed, and decided she was ready to leave.

Meanwhile I took my DS16 to the breakfast buffet. How can a boy so skinny eat so much? I encouraged him to get a breakfast wrap at subway. But we'd eaten there the night before. So we went through the "non-character" buffet. First of all, I admit I despise buffets. And this one was one of the worst ones. I think it was $10.99 a plate. Usual stuff. I was surprised it was canned fruit. Not fresh. That was disappointing. It was messy, cereal spilled, juice spilled, . That'll happen when kids are dishing up their own plates, and there was a Nick lady there to assist but she wasn't there to wipe up spills apparently.

We paid $328 for one night. Live and learn. I have told everyone DO NOT STAY AT NICK.

You may have had a different experience. You may love the place. Bless you. I'm glad, because I wouldn't wish our experience on my worst enemy.

THe next morning we left as soon as we could - later than I wanted b/c my DD9 was waiting to slide. Drove straight away to our BCV and I took in the cleanliness, shiny floors, clean linens, spotless bathrooms............it was good to be at Disney.
