Price increase for DVC...........

My guide called today and informed me that DVC is increasing the cost per pt from $89 to $95. I am pretty sure this is DVC largest increase at one time($6).

He said current members can buy at the $89 price until April . After May 1st all pts will be $95 for current and new members at SSR.

I don't think so.

Price per point charged by Disney to buy DVC certainly increases a member's cost, but that doesn't have as much to do with the rental price as does the price of rooms and the willingness of DVC members to sell at $10/point. IMHO, the price per point primarily depends on what CRO/WDWTC is charging for rooms.


In other words as far as price goes, it really doesn't matter how much it "costs" you to provide a rental point (altho that can determine your profit or loss, LOL). Price is determined by how much customers are are willing to pay for it and how much your competition (giant here is Disney) is willing to sell it for.

Well, I guess that answers the question about how well sales are going.

I agree that $6 looks like the biggest jump to date. Since WLV, the points have tended to go up $5 around the time a resort opens. They went from $67 to $72 in January 2001. They jumped to $75 in June that year. BCV sales began in March 2002 and the price went to $80 in June 2002. Dec. 2002 it went up to $84 and we hit $89 per point in August 2003.

With each new resort that opens, it adds a larger variety to the value of the membership, so I can understand why Disney is raising the purchase price. SSR has a great DD location and obviously it is selling well...we have many posters who have purchased already. Many of us are looking forward to someday staying at SSR.

1. Is the increase on DVCII (SSR) only or are they raising the resale price on points they buy on ROFR from DVCI resorts from $84 to $95 as well? This would include VB which is still selling at $84.

2. Are they still giving the $5.00 per point discount with no requirement to exchange the first year's points? It appears so on their web site.

My guide said that after May 1st, all purchases and add-ons will be at the new price of $95 per pt. He didn't know if there would be any incentives at that time.


P.S. I am also glad our pts(600) were bought at the $65 mark. The members that bought in 1992-1995 really made out when they bought in the $50's(per pt).

Thanks Nick. That is an amazing $11 per point increase in DVCI. Hope they raise the ROFR buy-back point as well.

I would be amazed if Disney does not start exercising ROFR at a higher price (say about $80 per point). It is kind of hard to justify $95 a point at SSR if other resorts are available at $70 a point through re-sale.

All I know is that I am glad I purchased when I did. For all those considering buying in or doing and add-on, now is probably the time.

Just wondering, if Disney sales are increasing, do you think resale prices will increase too? We haven't been members that long or looking at resales to see any noticeable increase in the resale prices, but do you think they'll increase now too?

i just find that hard to believe, why they would raise DVCI by $11 when they didn't bother raising it to $89 before. </font>

I agree. I hope it is not true for DVC I because I am on the waitlist. If DVC I is going up $11 per point, I will do much better with a resale.

Wow! We just closed on a resale contract for VWL. I had told DH that there was a possibility that Disney was going to raise prices for DVC mid year.

Of course this was rumour back then but I guess it's true. Looks like we may be doing future add ons by resale.
