PRICE INCREASE ALERT: As of May 17 Universal has pushed through their 2013 price increase on all Base and Park-to-Park tickets. Here are the old and new prices (please note that these are Universal's online prices, not gate prices):

1-Day Base – was $88.00, now $92.00.
2-Day Base – was $120.00, now 125.99.
3-Day Base – was $135.99, now $140.99.
4-Day Base – was $145.99, now $150.99.
1-Day Park-to-Park – was $123.00, now $128.00.
2-Day Park-to-Park – was $139.99, now $146.99.
3-Day Park-to-Park – was $152.99, now $159.99.
4-Day Park-to-Park – was $159.99, now $167.99.
3-Park Unlimited – was $179.99, still $179.99.

This increase pushes us over the line we hope we'd never get to but all knew we would eventually: A 1-day Base ticket with tax and fees is $100.13 - it's now costs over a hundred bucks to visit one of Universal's parks for one day.

And Disney will follow suit shortly.

Still cheaper than a round of golf at Grand Cypress, lol.

not a bad price increase, probably more entising to go for mulitple days rather than one day now.

glad they are holding the ap price the same.

i quit my disney ap when they jumped the prices sky high.

I purchased 2 day tickets before the price increase. If we decide on our second day to add a third day, do we pay the difference between the current 2 and 3 day tickets? Or go we pay the difference between what we paid and the current 3 day cost?

You pay the difference in the current price I believe.

Are we sure it's over $100?

Never mind, it really is!

Disney to do it next Friday would be my bet.

So glad we went ahead and purchased our tickets last month for our July trip. That money adds up for a family of 4.

The Orlando Informer is mixxing apples and oranges. Gate price on a 1-day Base was $89 and it is up to $92-$3 increase. 1-day PTP was 124, up to 128-$4 increase.

If you read he says note they are online prices and not gate prices.

Ok, guess we'll just cut out one shake from Schwab's for each of us.

Nah...that AIN't happening! :)

Actually surprised the increase wasn't a bit more drastic, but that'll probably be hitting as we get closer to HP2 opening.

I will pretend you did not say that.

One thing I like about the Flex payment plan... my renewal price is locked. I've noticed that since my flex contract autorenewed my price has remained constant even with increasing AP pricing. I may be paying a bit more now than I would with a lump-sum renewal, but I figure that after a couple AP price increases I'll be coming out ahead.

Wouldn't surprise me. Figure we went from the $99 7 day tickets to the $89 one day tickets after HP1 opened.... so while i wouldn't expect such a large bump for HP2, I would almost expect a non-trivial price increase once HP2 opens. [Though, it might be in the form of a "phantom" increase, such as eliminating the 1 day 1 park tickets with the justification of easing the Hogwart Express ticking logistic issues]

What is flex pay? Is it a fl resident thing? I know if you sign up for monthly payments you are NOT locked into a price, if prices raise, so do your payments next contract year.

Flex Pay is monthly payments for the annual passes and it's not only for FL residents. I don't know if prices are locked in...SeaWorld locks theirs in but I'm not sure if Universal does.

When checked into flex pay and even though you are locked into the price it did not make sense to pay full price each year.

Flex pay is the monthly payment plan, and not just for Florida Residents at Universal. After your first year, Your monthly cost will increase by the amount of the Flex Pay Downpayment (Basically, Full price for the renewal instead of the lump-sum discount)... HOWEVER.... you are then locked into the new monthly price.

This means that subsequent rate increases for the AP will not impact your monthly fee.

Flex Pay is monthly payments for the annual passes and it's not only for FL residents. I don't know if prices are locked in...SeaWorld locks theirs in but I'm not sure if Universal does.

As I mentioned above, at the time of renewal after your initial contract is done, Your Monthly rate will increase slightly to cover the downpayment amount, but it's locked in at that point.

IOW's.... (Pulling numbers out of my butt).... Say you have a $120 Down Payment for your AP, and then paid $15/mo for the next 11 months as part of your initial Flex contract.

Once month 12 hits, Your new monthly price will be $25, but will not change for as long as you hold your AP.

If you decide you want to renew using the Lump Sum method, i think I remember them telling me that I had to give my notice of canceling my Flex Contract between payments 10 and 11, And then I could pay the Lump sum at that time to renew. The Big gotcha was that I had to do this during my contract year, and not my "Valid thru" year. (IE... bought AP in March. didn't activate until april)

When checked into flex pay and even though you are locked into the price it did not make sense to pay full price each year.

It definately didn't much as much sense at first.... and maybe not for a little while still. My decision to stick with the flex payments for my renewal vs. transitioning to the annual lump sum was made with 2 assumptions...

1. The smaller monthly amount would be easier on my budget and spending habits instead of having to remember to have the funding available for the lump sum on my renewal date each year. (IOW's.... the convenience factor was worth paying a little more overall for me)

2. I plan on keeping my AP for QUITE awhile.... and therefor despite paying more than the lump sum for the first few years.... Between Annual price increases, and bigger price jumps due to things like Harry Potter opening, i'm expecting that in a couple years I may end up paying less for my AP each year than the lump-sum renewal rate. (this is more of a gamble, and who knows exactly how long this may take).

I've only had my AP for about 2.5 years now currently, but I know I'm already paying much less than the current full price for my AP each year. I'm not entirely sure though where I stand compared to the lump sum renewal rate.
