Okay guys. We're going to WDW and right now we have reservations for April 29th thru May 5th. I'm still debating on whether to fly or drive. I checked SW and if we still with those dates our flight would cost us $711.00 for the three of us. If we change just a bit and depart on May 6th instead of May 5th our flight would cost us $545.00 for the three of us. So here's the question. I'm thinking of calling CRO to find a room for the night of May 5th. The difference in the flight cost would be $165.00. We are passholders so we possibly could get a good room rate. What would you do if it were you??
I just want some opinions of others. So if this were you would you stay another night? I realize by the time all is said and done we really wound't be saving any money because by the time you pay for the accomodations for another night and spend money on eating and so forth, the savings of $165.00 for the flight would not be a savings anymore, but on the flip side, it is one more day of the magic and the flight on the 6th departs at 8:30pm where as the flight on the 5th departs at 6:55. What do you think???

I'm in almost the exact same situation as you! Our trip is from 4/30-5/7 and we are still debating whether or not to fly(it would be our 1st time)or drive. If I add a day onto the trip and fly I would save $400(for 4 of us) but would have to find a room.
I think in your situation the $165 savings will not be a savings once you add the room and food for the extra night. If you want to save money then I wouldn't do it.
Good luck!

I look at the $165 savings as paying for an additional night at Disney! (I'll jump at any excuse to stay longer!!!!)

Stay another nite. You could even do Priceline for a cheap room. Also good rates on DTD hotels on mousesavers.

herc.

I had that problem the first time we went to Disney.
We Drove down and saved $1,000.
My wife hates to fly.
The first time we went to Walt Disney World, April 2004 with my 3 year old daughter We decided to go to WDW a couple of months before we went with little planning. We rented some points off the DIS forum, checked the airfares a couple of times and picked up a trip tick from AAA.

We drove from my office in downtown Boston to WDW Old Key West stopping only for gas and bathroom breaks.

After the first 3-4 hours in the car driving the rest of the way to WDW isn't that bad; more like a series of short trips.

The traffic was a mess from Hartford through Delaware on the way down.
It rained from North Carolina to Boston, Mass. on the way home

Me and my wife alternated turns driving our Nissan Xterra when we stopped for gas. My 3 year old held out a lot better than I thought she would on the way down and on the way back to Boston, WITHOUT, tapes, DVDs, video games, just a lot of singing and sleeping.

It's not that Bad!!!

Last year, April 2005 we caught a break in fares and flue down and back out of Logan on a non-stop with American Airlines , $504 round trip total for the 3 of us.

This year, April 2006 we caught a break in fares so we're flying down and back out of Logan on a non-stop with Song/Delta , $496 round trip total for the 3 of us.

April 2007,
If all goes well,
The creek don't rise,
and there ain't no melt down,
We'll do it all again next year.

Good Luck all,
Joe

stay the extra night....

we hate to be in a car for an entire day to go on any vacation...

plus the fact we spend 2 whole days driving....thats 2 days off of our vacation time off from work.....we would rather fly and be there in a couple of hours...besides..a LOT more folks die in cars everyday than they do airplanes (I work in emergency medicine..sorry)

good luck,
Esmerelda

From my past experience:
Last year we began preparing for our 4:00pm flight at about 10:00am.
We checked into the Beach Club at about 9:00pm.
We checked out of the Beach Club the following Friday at 10:00am after an hour at Downtown Disney we headed to the Airport for our 2:30pm flight. We got home ito Boston at about 8:00pm.
While hanging around the Airports fustrated with changed seats, delays, security (don't put a cigarette lighter in your suitcase) and all; driving seemed like a good idea.
I'm hoping this year goes a lot smoother, but preparing the same way, for the worst.
Good Luck All,
Joe
