previous vacation now accepted to program??

We have a family vacation booked DVC ages ago, ADRs booked (we are AP so thats not a problem) for this August (10th-18th).

Then today my son got his acceptance to the Fall Advantage program in recreation activities! Yeah!! So happy for him. At first we figured we were good if he got the regular fall program with report date of Aug. 20th...would have been practically seamless with our vacation. However, now his report date is June 4th.

Besides me having to deal with flight changes- how are the schedules for CP workers? Can he stay with us at BLT and commute to work from there? How hard is it to get a day off or better he just spends his free time with us, we don't want him pushing any limits? Anything else we need to know or plan ahead for? Thanks for any info!!

My son was in the same situation a few years ago on his first DCP and will face the same thing this Dec ( Fall DCP again) for our family Christmas trip. Last time it was no problem. He requested off for the dates of our vacation, spoke to his supervisor and made sure the scheduler understood what was up. His name was on reservation so staying in room was no problem. If your son ends up being scheduled to work a day or so of your planned trip, going to work from the resort is no big deal IF he has his own transportation. Using Trans star or internal resort busses will be a bit more complicated, depending on his work location, but will be doable with some planning and good time management. Tell your son to be sure to not get any marks on his record for being late to work and that will help him with getting time off request granted. Disney has changed the process of "giving away" work shifts so have him look into the new rules and procedures. If he is assigned to work during your planned trip, he could possibly give away or switch shifts with a co worker in order to enjoy some family time.

Thank you Txshadow...we just decided he will have his truck with him so transportation shouldn't be a problem. Plus one of the rooms out of our two reserved has his name as the lead name on the ressie and he can park for free if they don't allow cp workers free parking. Now just have to figure if I need to adjust the ADR's.

He can stay with you at the hotel, I stayed at Yacht and Beach and just took the boat over to Studios for work when my parents were visiting once, you just have to wear regular clothes until you get to costuming. The time off is hit or miss, most CPs get 2 days off a week but they are the first to be scheduled more. He can request Authorized Days Off once he gets access to the hub, he may be put on a waitlist, but there is a chance. He can also talk to his leaders about approving a shift giveaway when that week comes around, otherwise he's limited to trading for shorter shifts or different days only. Shouldn't really be an issue, he'll just have less time with you.

He could easily stay with you. My family visited me during my program and I booked them discounted rooms at Pop Century for a few days then I somehow managed to do this well enough in advanced that my leaders were able to set up my days off to coincide perfectly with their visit. So I ended up being at Pop for a good part of their visit. However that was only two of the five days they were there. One day I called out because I was sick (I was originally planning on going to work) then the others I just hung out with them prior to or after work (and I was lucky that I didn't have to work all day like most CPs do on the daily during the Christmas week). I'd say that he can definitely try talking to his leaders, putting in for ADOs, etc. which I know has been said before. I'll just add don't put expect Disney to give him the entire eight days off because they most likely won't. I'd say 5 is the pipe dream and then maybe he'll have shorter shifts where he can hang out prior to shifts then you can maybe visit him while he's working. I know my mom HAD to do that at least once (and unfortunately photographed a very anxiety-ridden, sweaty me pushing around a trash cart as a result).

It should not be hard for him to request the days off as long as it is not during a peak time where the parks are at capacity. Make sure he requests sthe days for your vacation ASAP so he has a higher chance of having the days approved. I would also recommend he forms strong relationships with coworkers so he could have an easier time trading shifts for days he is not able to get off. Disney also has some funky rules when it comes to the number of days off you are allowed to take in a row, so if your trip is around a week I recommend that he is familiar with the policy and has a shift the day before and after to prevent issues. The schedulers do not always take the time to recognize if the person requesting off is a CP. Make sure he does not call in if he does not get the day off. If he goes to the park after calling in "sick" or "personal" he will be terminated.
