Insane Disney World crew:

Me- (25)-the planner, tour guide, benevolent boss
Mom- (50ish) classic mother, loves family vacations
Dad- (60ish) recently retired, quite laid back, slight troublemaker (in a good way)

This trip was given the go in early December. Although I have been bugging my parents to re-visit DW since 1990, when I was in 7th grade. Our family took a DW vacation when I was in 3rd grade and we loved it. In 1990, I went for a day with my Jr. High School Chorus class and fell in love with the place. Since then, I have loved the music, movies, and theme parks more than I did as a young child. Funny how that works. Anywho, my unfortunate but stubborn parents had to listen to their stubbornly persistent daughter talk about Disney, going to DW, begging to go to DW, etc. for 5 more years.....until I graduated from high school and went off to college. How unfortunate for them. They also heard about it in college but the pressure was off of them as I managed to find a way to talk my buddies into going to DW during holidays. I have only been once since I started graduate school (with DH) but I had to quit smoking to get him to agree to go with me. (He is tired of DW and tired of hearing about DW from me). This trip was at the end of Sept. 2002. At this point, I really have been to Disney my fair share but I was just so depressed about returning from DW and not having my fun DW vacation to look forward too. Additionally, I was getting to a stressful point in my grad. degree with thesis, seminar, meetings, etc. Returning from DW definitely did NOT help. I started trying to arrange future trips but I couldn’t get anyone to bite.......even my parents were not biting at this point). I checked the DW web site where they were advertising a “winter thaw” deal where we could get 2 rooms as the All Stars for $55 (each) per night. I thought this was such a deal that I would run it by my mom again to make sure that she didn’t want to go.....with such a great deal. I also reminded her that I am applying to schools for next fall across the country and this might be our last chance for a family vacation for a long time. (Actually, I also have a brother but he is/was Disney impared and uninterested.) Well, blammo! That was the wonderful combination of words that convinced these wonderful people (my parents) that we should take a trip to that wonderful world that we all love. I was a little bit scared that my dad would get a little bored or uninterested throughout our stay as he tends to appreciate a more natural setting. Although, he is crazy about music and airplanes.....in fact, his one request is that one day while in WDW, he would skip out of the world and visit an air museum (while my mom and I went to the parks). Interestingly, now that my dad is retired he is able to enjoy many more things.

So anyway................the trip is on go. I am excited! My mom humors me the whole month before we leave by sending me letters decorated with Disney stickers, etc. (what a woman).

I drive to Charlotte to meet my parents on Sat. Feb. 8th. I am so excited that I am about to burst out of my skin. I have a list of errands prepared (i.e. grocery shopping for breakfast in the room, etc.). We all eat dinner and get ready to go to bed early so that we will be happy about a 9-10 hour car drive starting at 6:00am the next day. Around 10:00pm, I sneak outside to replace my dads Toyota license plate frame with my special “WDW been there, done that, going BACK” license plate frame. When I re-enter the house, all H E double hockey sticks has broken loose. My dad had been laying in bed realizing that he hadn’t packed approx. $600 that he was planning to spend on trip expenses. Anyway, it was lost. He was throwing a fit. We were all looking for it. Finally, after about an hour, he found it in the trash among old coffee grounds, banana peel, and other various forms of nastiness. So, bedtime turned out to be approx. 11:30pm instead of 10:00pm. BUT, all was good, I knew there would be no sleeping for me the next day.....late bedtime or not.

Sounds like you have everything ready to go - you are lucky my mom is so anti Disney it isn't funny - thanks for posting!

 Thank Goodness your dad found his money!! That would NOT make a good beginning to your trip. Off to read the next installment.
