Has anyone ever used those wristband motion sickness preventers? I understand they work on the pressure point principle. I have uncles who are fishermen who say they work, but I'm curious if any of you experienced cruisers know first, or even second hand if they really work. We didn't need to use them last cruise, but, I hear the seas are rougher on our next sailing, and I want to be prepared. TIA for those who have valuable info for the rest of us! :cool1:

DH has a tendency to turn green on boats so he wore them (actually, just one :confused3 ) on our May cruise. He had absolutely no problem. We did have very calm seas the whole trip, though.

Yes, they do work! One brand is called Sea Bands. DD used them on the boat to Catalina. It was very rough and without them she would have been green. We will be packing them for our cruise next week, just in case. A couple words of warning though, they are snug and can be uncomfortable for long time wear. I don't know if I'd want to wear them all week. I would probably reserve them for rougher waters, or the tenders. They also have to be worn just right or they won't do any good, so be sure to follow the directions for placement carefully.

I have used these on all 4 cruises and will use on the next one. Don't know if it's mind over matter, but they worked for me. DD and my dad have used them too.

Didn't work for me, my sister, or my mother and we had a doctor show us the exact placement (my mom even marked the exact spot with a little dot from a permanent marker to be sure she placed it correctly).

DW uses them and swears by them. They work great for her and she has never felt sick when using them. Also uses them to fly as well. Well worth the $8.

Wog, Does your wife wear them for the whole cruise or is ok to just put them on when you are feeling green?

I have bonine, chewable dramamine, regular dramamine, ginger, and sea bands (along with the rest of a small pharmacy!) Going to Catalina with "glass seas" I wore the Sea Bands and they worked great - until I took them off when we got to land. I turned green. I get dizzy if you corner too fast in a parking lot :faint:

We leave Saturday.

I used one on my last cruise, and it really did work. However, it was very snug, and bothered me. Next time I will plan to see my doctor beforehand for a better solution.

On our first cruise, I was the one who felt uneasy the first night. Took the Bonine and went to bed. Missed a very good meal at Triton's the first night. :confused3

On our second cruise, I brought the Sea Bands, got the patch from the Dr. and brought more Bonine. I used the Sea Bands and the patch. I had no problems at all (we cruised the same week each year).

This year I'll do the patch and the Sea Bands and bring the Bonine. I now use the Sea Bands when flying and in the car on long trips.

I do not think I would need the patch for the entire cruise, just the first night.

In my opinion they work!!. I was laying in bed, we were in a storm, an oh my the room was creaking, the curtains were moving, the closet was closing and opening. Then my stomach starting churning!!. It was truly a terrible feeling. I found my "sea bands" put them on - it was like "magic" I felt better almost instantly, weither its mind over matter, I don't know. But, they worked for me!

She will usually wear them the whole cruise. But they can get uncomfortable I guess so she was able to take them off for a break and left them off until she started to feel queasy again. She would then put them back on for a while. The relief seemed to be immediate (or almost immediate). She also brought the Bonine just in case only had to use it once.

Her biggest problem was the first night (like Lovemickey) crossing the Gulf Stream. The rest of the time they helped her feel fine and enjoy the cruise.

Thank you so much for the info and advice. I really appreciate it.

We got ours at Longs drug store. They were less than 8 bucks for a pack of 2. I think you are supposed to wear both, so that would be per person.

My husband wore the bands and they worked really well. The only thing he disliked about them was that he kept saying he felt like he was in the 80's again. LOL I guess he was not ready for that look to come back.

My dh and dd love them. We purchase them at walmart and last pair was like 6.97. Dh just puts his on when he gets queasy and works fine. Dd 15 wears hers the whole time.

If you're a AAA member, they're only $5.99 at their store. That's where we purchased them. Our local pharmacy carried them too for $8.00.

I bought mine at CVS, they were less than $10 - I don't remember the exact $$ but know they were well worth it.

They sell them on the ship. Get them before hand if you can. They are 11 or 12 dollars on the ship. We had 14-18 ft seas our first night on the Wonder. There were people getting sick every where. They had the Sea bands out on the counter at the gift shop. I bought them for my DS who was 5 and DH. They worked great on DS he felt better in 20 mins and was able to eat dinner. Not sure how well they worked for DH he went to bed. In the morning we were already in port. We had smooth sailing after that.
