I'm a bit of a junkie when it comes to pressed pennies. If I see a machine, I use it, so finding out there are many of them at The World leads me to believe I need to be prepared. So...

Roughly how many different machines are there vs. how many different patterns? Will I be seeing several duplicates or will there pretty much be one per major attraction?

How much of my money will the machine eat to press each penny?

Do they move the patterns not associated with something specific (like the Mickey ones) around to different places? What I'd really like to know is does anyone know where there's a Pluto one and if it's likely to still be there in Sept when I get there? ;) ;) ;)

Right now, I'm planning on packing at least one roll of pennies and depending on the answer to the second question, a corresponding number of quarters. :woohoo: Thanks!!

We took a roll of shiny new pennies and definately need alot more than that......my 5 yr old niece could spot the machines from miles away and there are literally hundreds.

Yes you will run out of pennies before get a Dup. I think even if it looks the same they are not .Different resort with Micket and so forth.

Yes we have Pluto a few times.

On main street in one of the main shops they have about 15 or 20 different machines alone. Then all the resorts have them and around most rides.

We take a Mini-M&M container and fill it with 2 quarter 1 penny then repeat It makes it easier and they hold a bunch. When that done were done. This trip I think DD wants to stick with a thream like she does with her pins.

Somewher not sure but there's a link with almost all the locations listed for the pennies and the Quarter presses.

Great post! Need to know this when I take the 2 nieces!

What you can do is buy one of the pressed penny books at a gift shop down there. This allows you to fill it up, and keep it under control. The book holds 36 pennies and 6 quarters.

My Disnephew is also addicted to this...and he has way over 75 pennies...and NO DUPLICATIONS.

So, it's 50 cents for each penny? Is it the same for the quarter presses also?

cjtorres - Thanks for the link!!!

amy4bruce - Thanks for the info about the collector book! That might end up being a must have item!

I can't wait to add to my collection!!

Quarter presses are I think $1.00 +the quarter

As you can see from the link, there are currently 494 pressed coins (penny and quarter) at WDW. This list is very good. It is updated 2-3 times a year. FYI, most penny machines require two quarters. There is one machine in the DQ store at DTD that requires 4 quarters per penny (3 different pennies), and the machines at SOG require 3 quarters per penny (I think six different pennies).

We filled three of these and still did not buy all of the pressed coins that we saw. DD loves to collect these regardless of where we are. At WDW, I had to cut her off. These machines were everywhere.

Sounds like me... I have some from every SixFlags (can I say that here??) I've ever been to, several from House on the Rock, plus random ones from other vacations and trips. IMO they're the best souvenier around! They're small, cheap, interesting, easy to pack, pretty much unbreakable, they don't wear out and you can't outgrow them! That beats out shot glasses, t-shirts and those itty bitty spoons anyday! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the help! I'd better start hoarding my quarters (the pennies are easy to come by!)!! =)

There's a couple of the quarter machines that only cost 75 cents plus the quarter - I know one is at the Hat at MGM.

There are a few designs that are duplicates. Usually there will be a slight difference between ones that look like duplicates, but we have a few that we can't find any difference at all.

I think you can also get a current listing from guest services at any of the resorts.

There are a lot of quarter presses. The coin books you buy at WDW have slots for pennies and quarters

So, Pressed Penny Experts...I've read that the older pennies (pre-1982 I believe) are better than the new shiny pennies because the new ones can smear? Is that true?

Just want to be sure we collect the right pennies for our September trip. Thanks!
