Hello! I really want to start collecting those pressed pennies from the machines located all over WDW. I was wondering if any fellow Canadians have collected them, and used Canadian coins in the machines? Do they only work with the US coins? I would like to get my M&M container ready to go, with the alternating 2 quarters and 1 penny to make it easier to access when I come across a machine, before I head down. But I don't have too many coins, and I don't know if the banks can give me rolls of coins?

From what I recall, you can press canadian pennies and quarters but must pay the machine with US quarters.

There is a pressed penny website called disneyland pressed penny machine locations. If you check the net, you might be able to find a similiar website. From what I understand, the US pennies that are pre-1982 make the best impressions as they have the most copper in them. However finding pennies pre 1982 can be a challenge as they are becoming less common. But I still find them in my change. And intend to be pressing pennies when we go to DL in Feb/09. Be careful of the CDN pennies in the pressed penny machines, as I've heard that they may become stuck, or not leave as good of an impression as the US pennies. Good luck on your upcoming trip!!

Thanks for the great tips and link! I would hate to jam up the machines so I better stick to the US coins. Hubby doesn't want to "add more weight" to the luggage by bringing tubes of coins when we can just get the change when we get there!:rotfl2:

I just searched my coin tray and did find 3 pre 1982 coins!!! Can't wait to start the collection.

You can get quarters at the change machines in the laundry facilities at the resorts.

We collected a bunch of american quarters and pennies before we left. I kept them in an a mini M&M plastic container. I loaded two quarters and then one penny. I put it in my carry on. Security dumped it out to check it so be forewarned.

I cleaned my american pennies before I left but ran out of them quickly and ended up using whatever I could get my hands on. They all worked fine but yes, the pre 1982 pennies were a better quality. I noticed but my kids didn't.

I love collecting pressed pennies and pressed quarters. We have the complete quarter collection from 100 years of magic and 6 other books of pressed pennies. You can buy two different penny book from Peggy's Sweets and more. www.peggyssweetsandmore.com I have already got my lists, m&m canisters and almost $60 in quarters. We really don't buy a lot of stuff for ourselves.

Do the Canadian pennies show the metal behind like the US pennies made after 1982?

I'm having trouble finding US pennies (1981 and earlier) before we head down. I have shined up the ones I have but need more.

How did you shine them up? I have a few but never checked out what they were, Cnd or US coins? But the ones that were shinier look nicer to me. :goodvibes

I managed to find a bunch of US pennies but there are SO DIRTY!!! I did take a bucket and then put them in there and poured in enough vinegar to cover them. It cleaned them up, but not 100%. Some are still so dirty. I still had to take the penny and scrub it a bit under water, leaving my fingers BLACK! There must be an easier way. I figure if I don't have enough shiny ones before I go down, I can always shine them back up with other solutions even after they have been pressed.

I have so many shiny brand new 2007 2008 Canadian pennies that I am tempted to use, but I still don't really know if they will work?! I would hate for it to be stuck in the machine. They do seem thinner to me than the US coins....I know we have pressed penny machines in Canada that uses Canadian coins, I wonder if they were manufactured differently?
