Are there still pressed penny machines that accept quarters and pennies that need to be cranked by hand? We are heading to the world in a few days and I need to know if I should prep my M&M mini containers - last time i read up on the machines, WDW was transitioning to Digital machines that take cards.

Thanks in advance!

Following because I'm curious since I hadn't heard this rumor...But last year at WDW and this year at Disney Hilton Head all the penny machines we found were crank that took quarters and pennies..Not sure that it makes a lot of sense to accept a card??

The did put in some of the new machines, but I don't believe they have replaced all the old ones at this time (or if they plan to do it at all).

We went in June and the only machine I saw that took a card was one in Downtown Disney.
All the others in the parks were either the cranks or the kind you push a button to make your selection. We came home with a ton!!!

I did see that newer machines have been added at DTD & other places that accept the card and you can order whole sets of princesses and such, but also read that there are no plans at this time to remove the old machines. We have our M&M tubes packed for Thanksgiving!! :)

Right. All the old types are on the parks. Only a few of the new digital machines added. They did not replace the others

Never used the m&m containers... That's a great idea... Do you stack them 2quarters and a penny or do you just do quarters and then pennies in another? I wanna try this next time :)

You could do it either way but we did stack 2 quarters and a penny and the kids had fun doing it. My kids were in elementary school when we did it on our last trip and I used the pre-pressed pennies for an "educational" experience for school. To clean the pennies before the trip, I had each of the kids pick a way to clean the pennies. One chose ketchup and the other chose lemon juice. We left the pennies soak in the liquids for the same amount of time (I don't remember how long) to see if one would clean better than the other. The kids enjoyed it.

I went ahead and got all my change together. When packing my m&m containers, I stack my change by alternating between two quarters and a penny. When choosing pennies to smash, I always go with ones that were minted before 1982 to ensure they are made from copper to ensure their is no silvery streak within the pressed coin. I also clean my pennies prior to loading them into the containers -ketchup is one way, or you can use a salt and vinegar solution which is a bit more caustic but it gets the job done.

Thank you for all of your responses. I can't wait to grow my collection. This is something i look forward to each year we visit and was extremely saddened when I heard Disney was installing the digital machines. There is nothing like turning that crank and watching your penny being made - makes me feel like a kid again.

We are lazy, we just do the pennies as they are. We've always been happy with them the way they are. I stack them in the container in groups of 2 quarters and 1 penny. I stop at the bank and get a couple roll of quarters and a roll of pennies. Mento gum containers work great for the pressed pennies.

I put 2 quarters and a penny in an empty prescription bottle and stack them. They fit perfectly. I just look for newest, shinier pennies. My DGD will be pressing pennies tomorrow!

I bought a 5 pack of plastic coin bottles from Hobby Lobby for like $2. I labeled each bottle for each park and then the fifth bottle was for DTD/Resorts so that way I can grab one bottle for whichever park we're going to without having to lug around a ton of pennies and quarters. I also stack them as two quarters and a penny. I'm also bringing a little pouch to put the pressed coins in.

I give each of the DGs an empty decorated M&M container with quarter, quarter penny and a decorated Mentos container for the pressed penny. That said, to carry that M&M container around in the backpack all day is a bugger. This time I will take a smaller container to fill each day to take into the park and just carry the mentos containers for the pressed pennies.

This is what we do. I use the MM container to store the coins but we don't haul it to the parks. DH has an old fashioned coin pouch the we use instead. It holds enough for 4 or 5 pennies. That's enough for a day and we can always replenish when we take our break.

I kept the quarters, pennies, and pressed pennies in my wallet, in the zippered change section. No need to haul any more crap into the parks then needed - that's my motto!

Great idea but we have 3 DGs and you cannot get 1 a pressed penny without getting 2 more just like it so regardless we end up taking about 15 sets of quarters and pennies into the park each day.
