Pressed pennies

Can you tell me all about the pressed pennies? How does it work? are there a certain # to collect? I just ordered my 2 girls a book to put them in for their easter basket. Thank's Toni

Each Disney park and resort has pressed penny machines. Most of the time, they have themed pennies to go along with the location. (i.e., Animal Kingdom had pressed pennies with Mickey in a safari hat, etc.) They cost $.51 to do. My DD loves to do this, and we did something on our last trip from a tip I got on the DIS boards that worked great. We took an old film canister and layered 2 quarters, 1 penny, 2 quarters, 1 penny, etc. until it was filled. When my DD4 saw a pressed penny machine, we just took the film canister out and let her get one. We didn't have to rummage through wallets, purses to find the appropriate change! Also, we told DD that when the film cannister was empty, she couldn't get any more. She was so funny because she got very picky about the pennies she would get. She was always measuring whether it was the one she really wanted because she knew that the amount she could get was limited.

The machines are everywhere! DD loves to get them.

The MINI M&M containers work good as well and give you a little more then the film containers.

And yes they are everywhere even some quarter ones that cost $1.25

Gift shops at WDW also sell collector cases to store all of your WDW presses coins.

We tried the pressed penny thing last trip but did it for just one day. All those coins get heavy lugging around (especially if you have more than one kid!). Also, it slows you down, always looking for penny machines, and dragging kids past one when you've got other priorities.
