I've never done this before but I thought it would be fun for my boys (3, 5) to collect them along the way? How much change should I bring and is there any way to find out where some of the machines are located?

You will need quarters for the pressed penny machines along with the pennies you want pressed. Bring rolls of quarters (in your checked bags, TSA thinks they are weird enough looking to stop you at security) and cleaned pennies. Ketchup actually cleans pennies nicely. I think it is 50 cents per press.

As many .51 combos as you want them to press. You can make hundreds throughout the parks and resort. There should be a master list floating around the web if you google it. Each penny costs .51 ( 2 quarters and 1 penny).

We did this with our grandaughters. M&M tubes are an easy way to carry the change. You need 2 quarters and 1 penny for each pressed penny. They also have pressed dimes (tommorowland arcade) and some places pressed quarters which I think take 5 quarters. There is a list online you can look at.Just google WDW pressed pennies. Sorry I don't remember the web address. Hope you have fun.

If you look on the Creative Dis board there is are super cute printables to put on a m&m tube to hold the money and then to place on a container like altoids or tic tacs to hold the pennies after they are pressed. I made these for my boys with the Jedi Mickey on there and they loved them!

I was just looking this up last night for my 12 year old. He collects pressed coins where ever he finds the machines. He has a binder he got at Disney that he keeps them all in from all over.

I found this sight and really liked it...

There is a link in the middle of the page for Walt Disney World Resort which takes you here... It was just updated on May 2nd of this year.

I actually printed off the maps to take with us because it shows you right in the park where they are. It also tells you if there is a changer by the press... thought that might come in useful.

Are any of you on Pinterest? I have pinned a link where you can print out pocket sized guides of where to find the machines. There are pressed pennies, quarters and dimes. A tip I learned is if you take one of those mini m&m tubes it will hold a full roll of quarters AND enough pennies to go with them. I would put them in order in order to just slide out what i needed. I'm going to use mine and make a charm bracelet.

I'm a little late to the party, but my family collects the pennies. My husband says he does it for our daughter, but I think that he enjoys it even more than she does. Many of the tips have already been mentioned here, such as the M&M minis container for the change. We would put in 2 quarters and then a penny. Then two more quarters and another penny. That way, you know you have enough pennies and quarters. If you polish up the pennies before you go, they will do better. Pennies made before 1982 tend to do better because they had less zinc. Anyway, besides all of that, here is a map of some of the different pressed penny locations in the parks, as well as what characters you can find on the pennies.

There is also an app called "Penny Finder" which has a "Find Near Me" option as well as the option to locate by city.

I might add they should still carry in the gift shops the press pennies "books". We got one first first time we visited and it holds about 20-30 pennies and some pressed quarters. I still have to 10 years later!

I did this a couple of years ago. It is fun and makes for a great gift and it is something that adds a little extra magic to your trip when you find one. I didn't have a list, instead my family and I would just try to find them (it was part of our game).

Here are a couple of things we did:

1. We went to the bank and asked for brand new shinny pennies. We got 100 of them. They usually always have "fresh/new" pennies at banks and they will give them to you if you ask. This makes the penny very clear when it is pressed.

2. We used mini m&m containers for our quarters and pennies. When we saw one we wanted we would just grab our quarters/penny and go get it. Very easy and convenient!

DS is 4 and loves doing these! I bring an M&M Minis tube to hold the unpressed coins and a Mentos Gum tube for the pressed ones. He had so many after a few trips we went ahead and bought him a pressed penny album at one of the gift shops. We never go in with a plan as to which coins he'll get, he just picks and chooses. It's a nice diversion.

I've collected pressed pennies for years all over the US. Cheap, fun souvenirs!

Just a note to anyone who uses the mini M&M containers to store their coins - we did that last year and had them packed in a carryon on the way to WDW. It caused all sorts of commotion when we were going through security because they could see solid tubes on the xray machine. Had to get our bags searched and it was the coins in the tubes causing the concern. :scared1:

Needless to say, I will be taking the tubes again because it was so handy in the parks, but I will be putting the coins in a ziplock until we get to our hotel :)

Does anyone know of a website that shows you what the pressed pennies look like? I think that this will be a fun thing to do with my kids on their first ever trip to Disney World this summer but would love to show them the different pennies in the different locations.

This sight has pictures of a lot of the coins and you can sort by park. My 12 year old son and I just spent hours going through this one so that we could decide on his "MUST HAVE" coins on our trip in December. It was fun sitting there with him and seeing his expressions when he saw a coin he just had to have!

Had the same thing happen to us :). I've been less than diligent about putting our pennies away after every trip, so after our March trip, I sat down to organize. We have 186 pennies just from Disney!! Whoa. So I decided to catalog them, and now I have a list (description and, I think, where they came from--although machines do move) on my phone so we don't have to wonder "do we have that one??" every time!

Love doing the pressed pennies! Easy, cheap, fun to find & collect, makes the kids more agreeable to hanging out in a shop for a few minutes while I browse :)

If you don't bring/forget your penny map, I got one at MK in the guest services building (fire house? Can't remember exactly) just off to the left when you enter, before you start walking down Main Street. They had a copy for each park and I think the resorts too. I asked if the other parks had the map/list and the CM there said she thought only MK had the lists on hand. Don't know whether those are more or less likely to be accurate than the various online lists.
