Presents from (me) characters?

I swear I saw a thread about leaving presents out for your kids each day from the characters. I can't seem to find it though. Can anyone direct me to it?

OR, I'm looking for ideas of things to leave. Last time I got a bunch of dollar store stuff that was never touched again once we got home. I'm looking for ideas of non-junk, yet inexpensive things I can leave for my boys (5 and 9). Lol, is that too much to ask? Any ideas? Thanks!

Disney story books, coloring books, sticker books..... These can be used to occupy children quietly during down time in the room, at meals, traveling home, etc.

A small photo album, with slots, post cards with character pictures, an "invite" from the pictured character to come see them and get their post cards signed. Add the signed cards to the photo album with a photo taken during the meet and greet signing in the slot next to it.

I haven't done it before, but planning to this time. I've got a water bottle (will probably give this on the first day for use throughout), a few themed personalized tshirts to wear on particular days, a towel for the water park day, jammies one day, glowy stuff for the day we'll stay late to watch a nighttime show. I'll do little invitations for the ADR we have on the day.

I bought stuff from disneystore.com always checking for clearance and sales, and got up to 10% off by buying disney store gift cards at raise.com and some deals from amazon.com! I have a girl so my list is a little different.

I bought: mini bean bag plushies of Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Pluto, Goofy for about $4 each (normal price $9); a little mermaid bathing suit, towel, flipflops, sunglasses and bag, a water bottle, coloring books, crayons, stickers, lanyard, a couple pins. I bought Cinderella's carriage pearl cage necklaces off amazon to use to Pick-a-Pearl in Epcot; a Tinkerbell water bottle, a couple treats/snacks, a Rapunzel doll and Rapunzel PJ's... sprinkling everything with just a tiny bit of gold glitter!

We have not gone yet, so I'm not sure how great my list is yet. But I bought my daughter:
Day 0) Ears headband (to wear on the plane ride there)
Day 1) Sunglasses and hat
Day 2) Rain poncho
Day 3) Magnetic Frozen game from the dollar store (to play in the ride lines)
Day 4) Hooded beach towel
Day 5) Activity book (to do on the plane ride home)

We like special snacks......consumable and not dust catchers. Some you can get ahead of time, Target is great, and a few you can grab in the gift shop when they are not looking. I bought those character head juice bottles when DS was little. They are not really cheap but he loved finding one waiting for him each morning when he woke for breakfast. He took it out of the room to drink while we waited on the bus and we refilled it a time or two during the day but tossed it at some point. Gummy snacks, are fun as are disney shaped cookies or crackers. We also grabbed a few bags of fun character shaped candy and they were really fun to get and munch on during the day. I have also done disney themed bath products, PJs, shirts, hats etc. I have also purchased ahead a WDW themed light up toy to give before a night time show but mostly we bring back one we bought years ago. Disney themed Sun Screen can making getting lathered up a bit more fun and is a good choice too.

I did this on our first trip when my kids were 5. The "disney characters" left them a personalized card each night telling them what we would be doing that day with a toy, hat, shirt, etc. We are going back this summer and they have already asked if the Princesses will be bringing them presents again. It's a real fun thing to do.

These are great ideas. I have a 5 year-old boy and try to leave functional items as well. I've done the t-shirts and glow items. My son was hesitant to go on Kali Rapids when he was 4 because he didn't want to get soaked (I know-that's the idea!). I bought a poncho for him one night at the gift store and left it for him to use the next day. It worked! If your kids are into the pins, you could try that as well. The next time we go my son should be tall enough for Space Mountain so I might get him a pin for that ride.

I did something similar when I brought my daughter a few years ago - but I did it all the first day. After we checked in, Daddy took her to the pool while I unpacked and then I put out the items... she thought Mickey and Gang left it after I left the room for the pool.

I had made from home and decorated with:

• Stringed Mickey pennants over the curtains - I think they said Welcome.
• Various Mickey decorations I found here at the Disboards
• Princess Cardboard cutouts on the walls
• A silhouette of Tinkerbell's shadow which we returned to Tinkerbell the next day - She was super happy to have it back!
• Yellow Mickey 'foot-prints' on the floor
• Window and door decorations to be viewed from the outside
• Chocolate bars printed with special messages - the wrappers, which I could customize, I found here on the Dis as well
• That day and on several other days I left Certificates including - invitations to things like La Nouba, Richard Petty Race for my Hubby, Invitation to BBBoutique, Spirit of Aloha, CRT etc. As well as a official Princess Card and Certificate that she received the morning after her BBBoutique experience. All found here on the Dis.

I also used Pixie Dust Services - who picked up some Mickey Rice Treats, Personalized Classic Ears for Everyone, Mickey Hands and a 18" Mickey Mouse Plush and left them at the Front Desk for our arrival. These were out waiting for my girl when we got back from the pool. She was completely blown away!

That was almost six-years-ago. She overheard me talking about it to someone the other day and she was quite upset to find out I had put that all together... oops! She's almost 11 now! I guess I created a great memory with lots of magic.

We called them Tinkerbell Gifts when we took our 3 granddaughters last May. And yes, you are correct there is or was a thread covering this. You might try searching "Tinkerbell Gifts". We themed the gifts to what park/activity was planned for the day (i.e. kid sized binoculars to animal watch @ Animal Kingdom, disposable camera & movie star sunglasses for Hollywood Studios, princess dresses for Princess Breakfast @ Epcot). There was a welcome letter from Mickey along with a big stuffed Mickey and PJ's for arrival day. We arrived early & went straight to Magic Kingdom - when we returned to the resort that evening, the girls were taken to the snack bar for a treat while I got the Mickey Welcome ready. There are fantastic DISigners on the Creative Design board here who can produce all manner of things from invitations for ADRs to Welcome/Good Bye letters and t-shirt transfer art.
