Lauri asked me to look for some of her artwork that had been packed away, and I found quite a bit of it.

Like she said, she's done a lot of sketches and paintings of dogs and even had K9ARTST as her license plate. These are some she did in the early 90s.

This one was published on note cards for the Richmond Animal League.

This is one of a dog a friend of Lauri's had -- a dalmatian with the coloring reversed.

A picture of Toby (the poodle we lost last year) as a puppy, but he looks a LOT like Reilly, our soon-to-be 4 yr old

She did these others from photographs and pictures in books.

A west Highland Terrier puppy

I am in awe. Just amazing. I can't even draw stick people. When my first DD was a toddler, she asked me to draw a bird. I gave it a try only to hear her say "that doesn't look like a bird." An art critic at 2!

Hi Guys!

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for the encouragement!! It's really hard to believe how long it's been since I have picked up a pencil or paint brush - over even more so how much the words of my exhusband had an influence on me. I'm a very strong person. I can endure tremendous physical pain (heck, before being sick and being in pain 24/7 I was going for my black belt in kickboxing, sparring against former army men!) and I'm pretty strong with emotional pain too (loooong story there) but he knew exactly where my insecurities were and played them like a pro

Anyhow - Dax - I have done a Pug! I sold it back in the early 90's though - I should have made a copy of it but I didn't think!

Catsrule used to be Dogsrule?? OMG - the scandal of 2004 has started!!!

Let me get through the next couple of days at work and maybe if things go okay I might be able to do some DISers pets

Oh, my goodness! Lauri is so incredibly talented. I was so saddened to hear that someone discouraged this God-given talent. And I am thrilled that Lauri has found some inspiration, once again bringing beauty and smiles to the world, starting with the first 55,000 right here!

Can I ask a favor? That first one, that was published for the Richmond Animal League note cards looks so much like my sweet baby, Cali Skye, a 3 yr old brindle colored cairn terrier. Do you know if those notecards are still available for purchase? I'd love to buy a bunch -- I'd rather seen the royalties go to someone I "know".

Wow, where was Lauri when I had that blind client with the seeing eye dog? Several years ago I was commissioned to paint a portrait of this client with her dog, and even though I learned to paint animals in art school, I was never much good at it. Its a special talent, for sure. I was never happy with that painting, I felt as though the dog looked menacing.
