I am going to a Eagle Scout induction for a family member. Do I give a present? What do I give? Thanks.

If you have a Scout Shop in your area, they have lots of things to give as gifts with the Eagle Scout logo on it. You can also order online if you want at www.scoutstuff.org

I just went to one for my nephew and I had the same question. I ended up giving him a gift card to Gander Mountain. Gander Mountain is a huge outdoor store. It has hunting, fishing, camping etc supplies.

While gifts aren't mandatory, it is a nice gesture. Gift cards or cash are good. While the Scout shops have lots of good Eagle Scout gift ideas it is hard to know what other people have given. Perhaps a gift certificate to the local Scout shop or national scout catalog would work.

After going to 2 parties this year for Eagle Scouts I'd have to say go with money or a gift card. One kid received a few "dust collectors" that most likely will end up in the back of a closet since he's off to college in the fall. The other one had let his whole family know he was taking a trip out to Yellowstone this summer and most of them either gave him money or gift cards for Gander. Don't get me wrong Gander is great but just because you're an Eagle Scout doesn't mean you spend all your time in a tent and need camping supplies. ;) If you've made it to Eagle Scout most likely you have a tent, backback, water bottle, sleeping bag...... As for scout shops they're a great place to buy "Eagle" items but not so good for buying camping items.

I would say gift card, cash or savings bond. DBF is an Eagle Scout and he has all kinds of "dust collectors" like CajunDixie said. Obviously if they have made it that far they have all of the supplies. :)

I feel like I can answer this as my son received his Eagle rank last year...

ANY kind of gift would be nice...these young men have worked many years to receive this award. So many just come to the ceremony and don't do anything to honor these Eagle Scouts.

Of course money is great. Just because he's an Eagle doesn't mean he won't still be a Scout and money (if put to a worthy cause) can be great. Our son put his nearly $500 towards attending National Jamboree this month. This trip alone was $1300.

Gift cards or anything camping is also a winning idea, I have to respectfully disagree with the above post, you can never have all the "supplies"/camping gear you need. We've spend over $250 in supplies for our son's 2 week camping trip to National Jamboree and he's been a scout for 10 years. Not to mention camping gear wears out too!

You can also buy anything with an Eagle on it. I've gone to my Hallmark store and gotten wonderful books, picture frames, sculptures and more .

BSA also has great Eagle Scout recogntion items, scrapbooks, baseball caps, and other items.

Lastly, and my and my favorite. :Pinkbounc Call Buck Knife..1-800-326-2825
Ask to speak to the person who handles the ordering of Buck Knife Eagle Scout knives (it is a lady or was last year). You can order a beautiful buck knife with the scouts name and the Eagle Scout logo on it for around $30.00. Turn around is very fast.

Of course with any of these suggestions, I'd check to ensure the familiy isn't arlready getting there Eagle the same gift.

Good luck

I love this idea. This is what I'm going to do, assuming his parents aren't doing it. If not, I'll go with cash.

My oldest had his ceremony in November (and my second born just finished his Eagle project). I was really surprised that all the out of town guests (and most of the in-town guests) who were sent an invitation to the ceremony sent gifts. He was given cash for the most part, because I don't think people know what to give. One of his favorite gifts was from my mother. She ordered the crystal eagle from Princess House Crystal with a wood base and had a brass name plate engraved at Things Remembered. (The brass plate was pricey!!) It is just beautiful and something he will always cherish. He loved the black leather Eagle Scout notebook cover someone gave him. Knives are VERY tricky (as in swiss army) because most of these guys have been collecting the knives they really want and need for years. I think the one mentioned above called "Buck Knife Eagle Scout Knife" might be the exception to that. I may look into that myself for son #2. I agree that gift cards to REI or any of the BIG outdoor stores that carry the GOOD camping stuff never go out of style! My son is working at Philmont Scout Ranch this summer in New Mexico and had to invest in even more equipment this year--even after taking the trek himself last year. Scouts that make it this far are going to camp and go on "adventure" vacations the rest of their life. They will always need more camping gear. Just don't buy the gear yourself because these guys need very specific brands and items.

I would also suggest that many Eagle scouts are almost going off to college, so I think almost any general gift card would also help ...I like the MC ones that can be spent anywhere, or a check. You could always find a nice eagle card to put it in. I would also agree that most Eagle Scouts probably have all the camping Gear/knives they want...they would have been using them all along. It is nice of you to honor this special occasion

I ordered the buck knife today. They are currently on back order & I am #32 in the line. They are waiting for some material to make them. I hope I get it in time!

As a member of a Scouting family (five Eagles and counting) and an active member of our troop committee I have been to many Eagle Ceremonies. Most gifts given were either camping equiptment or Eagle items. I know many might call them dust collectors but I have seen many Eagle items in offices of top CEO's. Being an Eagle Scout is an honor that last a life time and even though they may go in the closet when they treck off to college when they will be brought out later in life. My oldest received his Eagle at 14 and he still has everything on display. Also men never have enough outdoor toys. Congratulations to your Eagle.
